I’m not sure why you didn’t give the guy a $5 or so(less than grading or recasing fees) the instant you heard the case was damaged and just be done with this kid.
I get that buyer looks really stupid, but some of you sellers are god awful at customer service.
By the way, Walmart or Amazon would have most likely given this person a gift card… Glued/tampered item or not. Just my 2cents
I think you’re fine, dont let this kid get to you. 99.9% and 100% feedback looks exactly the same to me as a buyer. It’s actually impossible to avoid people like that forever so it was bound to happen eventually. You did the right thing in offering a full refund. File a claim through Ebay over the feedback and forget about it regardless of the result from the claim.
Call eBay and explain the situation and they should remove that feedback, them gluing the case and you stating you’ll still provide a full refund even though they did that should show the rep that you did all you could and they were unreasonable/stupid.
I will have to disagree with your point of view on this one.
The op gave good customer service as he was polite throughout and provided single instance resolution by offering to accept the item back for a full refund, furthermore, he was still willing to have the item returned for a full refund after the buyer intentionally damaged it.
As a seller my position would have been the exact same for two reasons, number one, I would be blocking this buyer, so in my eyes there is no longer a reason to do customer retention. Number two, and this is the really important part for me, if I gave him the partial refund it would open a precedent that would legitimize him to keep running these kinds of shenanigans with other sellers.
So yeah, serious ebay sellers will do exactly what the op did and manage to set the example, protect their peers and still remain calm and collected in their interactions. Check the feedback for any of the sellers here who agree with the op and see for yourself.
I’m not really considering ebay feadback anymore, as I’ve seen a lot of stupid negative feedback from people who didn’t read description and then have butthurt that they bought a broken laptop or opened booster pack, but didn’t read the fucking description lol So yeah, op is good, you can try to remove it or just leave it as is and it will be removed automatically in 6 months or so.
Walmart and Amazon aren’t selling niche collectibles. They are selling manufactured products that can be produced and ordered by the thousands. Their refund process is completely irrelevant to this situation.
This is an individual selling a niche item to another individual. The buyer lost all credibility when they glued the case.
Also giving them “$5 and be done with it” makes no sense in this scenario. Majority of buyers asking for a partial are problem buyers. Even in a situation when a case is damaged, send it back for a full refund. It makes no sense providing a partial, and the glue completely solidifies the buyer as a waste of time.
1.) He offered the buyer a full refund and the buyer refused. How is that “awful customer service?”;
2.) The OP is an individual seller on eBay; he is not a massive conglomerate that could hand out a million $5 refunds in a day and still not flinch, so the Walmart/Amazon part of your post is a horrendous comparison.
