So I recently sold a card (priced at about $50, PSA graded). Now I’ve sold hundred of cards and other items priced anywhere from $.99 to $10000. I have never had a single issue with my shipping process, but after this buyer paid he sent me this…
"Sorry for the delay payment. I was busy with work and family. Anyway, I just paid for the item and I have a favor to ask.
Can you please pack the card safely & securely in a strong walled cardboard box like a USPS small flat rate priority box.
For extra protection, please put the card in a clear sleeve first
then put it in between something rigid like 6 pieces (or more) of strong walled cardboard sheets
Or put it in between 2 plastic boards like plexiglass, before you pack them into a small cardboard box (USPS small flat rate priority box) .
Please use lots of bubble wraps or newspaper, etc. so the card is suspended in the middle of inside box but be sure to fill the space in between with enough packaging materials so the card won’t get damaged during shipping.
Pls waterproof the cards (i.e putting the cards into a zip lock bag)
Pls mark " DO NOT BEND" & “HANDLE WITH CARE” on outside of the box"
Now, I am paranoid as a buyer who has received some crazy bad shipments, but sorry for a $50 PSA card I am not going to bag, ziplock bag, 6 layers of cardboard, bubble wrap, and then put all that in a flat rate box and stamp DO NOT BEND & Handle with care. I always ship my items bagged, bubble wrapped & put in a flat rate box which is more than enough and always get positive feedback for my method.
Am I being ridiculous in thinking this is insanely overboard for what was purchased?
“Hi and thanks for the bid.
Card has already been boxed up in my normal, well protected way.
If you would prefer we cancel the deal it’s fine and I’ll refund your payment.
Either way, I appreciate your interest in my work and I hope to hear from you again real soon, xxx.”
If you cut and paste that I promise you he’ll say it’s ok to ship as is.
Yeah, guy goes on a bit overboard about detail. Does he actually have a checklist to see if you fit his profile for shipping at 100%? As long as its protected with cardboard and bubblewrap with a waterproof mailer it should be fine, to me at least lol.
Please spray with hydrophobic spray and give it a fire retardant sealing. Dismantle several nerf footballs and duct tape them round the outside of the package. Finally, if you could hang a “beware of dog” sign on the outside of it to fend off potential thieves, that would be great. I appreciate it.
I just sold some cards to this guy as well! He sent me the EXACT thing…but the thing was…all the cards were graded so I am pretty sure there’s enough protection lol
BTW. when I finished paying you tonight and when you are ready to pack the items. Can you please do me a favor and do the following.

Sorry I don’t want to be a pain. I just want to make sure that the cards arrived safely cause they are expensive. Hope you understand.
O…k… :S For cards worth 2k+ I could understand such protection, but for a 50 USD PSA card?.. The packaging + shipping would almost be more than the card like this.
I understand if the card is like extremely limited in quantity or extremely expensive. For 50$, that is ridiculous. It’s also ridiculous for the person to buy the card first and then ask for requests like this only afterwards. These things needs to be discussed before you buy the card.
Yeah, I get it. I mean, I get raw cards all the time sent in the worst ways possible, but a graded card and the amount of feedback I have with no Negs & tons of compliments on shipping should ease his mind.
I just thought it was funny to see all the directions as if this package was going to be dropped from an airplane into the Hudson and floating to his doorstep.
I just hope you don’t get neutral/negative feedback if the buyer complains about the packaging after!
“dropped from an airplane into the Hudson and floating to his doorstep.” AND have someone miraculously bend a box in half and then shot with arrows At this point I think the buyer should request the box to be reinforced with Kevlar too
