Box Topper Rarity and Population

Yesterday, I purchased the Legendary Collection Charizard and Mewtwo Box toppers. Are they just not that popular or are they more rare? I was looking around eBay at some prices and quantities, and they seem pretty slim (especially for the Dark Blastoise and Dark Raichu). Also seemed like most that were listed were damaged. Ended up buying my 2 for just under $90, which seemed like a good deal for NM-M ones (pics looked pretty darn good).

I didn’t start getting into Pokemon until the B&W EX era, so I’m still learning (watching lots of smpratte on youtube) about these older sets.

I think its just they aren’t that popular. They’re certainly mondo cool and a nice feature to a collection, but there simply is just not too much demand on them, hence why they were so affordable. Just and fyi, you may already know, but you can have them PSA graded!

Wow, I didn’t know they could be graded! I put in my first PSA order with Charlie in September, maybe I can squeak these in there on the faster return time to get them all back at the same time.

I just find it interesting that on eBay currently for the LC Toppers:

  • 10 Charizard listed, 8 of which are USA based
  • 8 Dark Blastoise, 3 USA based
  • 5 Dark Raichu, 4 USA based
  • 4 Mewtwo, 2 USA based

And about 1/4 of those are played/damaged.

Ahhh that rules! Charlie is the man! Yeah you might be able to squeak them in.

Also, legendary collection was not a long print run, there were nowhere near as many boxes produced as prior sets. Hence why there are so few LC sealed boxes still available.

I like the box toppers, but they are kinda a pain to store. Also, the print run for LC was quite short.

Damn, if you got two for that much I’m definitely going to start looking! I’ve always thought they were nice, if a bit weird but damn if I don’t want one! I wish the newer sets had box toppers themselves, those kinds of promos are such a nice touch
