Booster Box Cache

I think that long term box investments aren’t so good for profit anymore, like people have said the time it takes and the actual amount gained makes it kinda not worth doing anyway, the only people making absolute bank off stashed boxes are 1st Ed base and that’s about it, a boxes value increasing fourfold over 10 years isn’t a good return IMO and I would rather just collect with that money  that being said I do want a sealed box collection, not for investing purposes though mind you.

Another thing to think about is as a collector how hard is it for you to sell a sealed box to realize a profit. Once it has appreciated in value if you find yourself unable to sell it you are collector not an investor. That concept is why some store owners collect other things than what they sell.

example
Chuck Rozanski President - Mile High Comics, Inc. collects Native American pottery

I think this all the time, sometimes I drift off thinking what if this said person just has them to look at them once a day, forever lol

and what if there’s a Target Kmart or Walmart somewhere with a base set booster box just sitting there collecting dust somewhere in their stockroom.

Odds are it has been sold on eBay years ago.

Ah man, love the Dave Hester episodes lol. Funny how he’s always bidding up Darrell just to make him overspend.

OT: There’s bound to be someone with a cache of boxes stored away. There’s always that one person who has the presence of mind to keep a bunch of stuff with the hopes of it increasing significantly in value.

I would guess there are hoarders out there. They bought a box, maybe a case and it is stashed in building. So when they pass away hopefully their family puts on eBay, rather than throw away.

Yeah, definitely some people that cross that line between hoarding and collecting. Hopefully… Most adults would dismiss Pokémon cards as worthless kids stuff :slightly_frowning_face:

Yeah… Dave Hester was his name… hoarding sealed video games.

I just keep wondering, would there be a target warehouse with excess stock from the early 2000s, stuck somewhere with pokemon boxes;

or perhaps a card shop which closed down,
and then an old guy gathered up the last remaining boxes.
and he or she took all of the pokemon boxes back to some farmhouse, in some redneck area,
then the American pickers come along and find the boxes?

Yes but they had gold star cards which was even popular at its release. Now all to hope for is a silly Golden energy switch or something lame like that.

I actually think these golden items like the Switch, Ultra ball and the likes will be what makes these boxes valuable in the future. These 1 in 3 box secret rares that will be forever legal for competitive play add a new value factor to newer boxes that we’ve never seen before. Given that the Ultra Ball is already a $60-70 card, with the price having no where to go but up, theres no reason to believe Plasma Freeze box prices won’t inflate accordingly. The same could be said for any of the sets containing these gold trainers.

Valid point, but i think the only secret rare worth much in recent sets is the M Charizard EX SR from flash fire, and that’s only if it gets a GEM MT 10. Bandit ring may prove that wrong though!

What’s so great about Flashfire that would make you want to keep a box? Sorry for the ignorance - I haven’t been keeping up

I love that show

There are plenty of these but the few people who know wont talk about it. One of the shops i bought from the owener stashed away hundreds of boxes of all the trading cards. Not everything went up in value.

Exactly. Pokemon was a rare commodity. There’s TONS of failed TCG series out there. It’s hard to convince yourself to sink $100 into a box of a new series with no guarantee of return, let alone thousands into a hoard.

Flashfire has 7 Charizard cards, with the two Mega Charizard Secret Rares being the big cards in it.
