Would appreciate input from everyone on this card. It’s Pop 1 and the PSA pop reports show that it is a hard grade (223 9s vs 39 10s). Asking for a friend
While we have no idea what it might bring at auction, I think $5k is pushing it. I’d say about $3k or so. It’s a sought after card but it’s not a Charizard or a Gold Star, etc…
In my personal opinion this should be worth more than a PSA 10 - but not by a ton with a 9.5 surface. The surface is what gives most lugia their 9 grade. Everything else on this card is apparently perfect which is a rarity - yes - but I’ve sent many a card to PSA that have an extremely minor surface flaw and they come back 9’s with everything else perfect. It’s gonna be a buyer/seller agreement card like a lot of Pop 1’s. I personally would love the card but would be very hesitant about price. There are a lot of people that pay for the grade and not the card though. I’m not one of those people.
If Gary can secure a Pristine 1st Ed Shining Charizard for $5k as a $2000 card for the past 18 months in PSA 10, I don’t see how the Lugia can break $5k in Pristine since it’s not an ultra rare or a Charizard and had just reached the $2000 price point a few months ago.
Like many had said about Pristine 10s, it depends on the print quality of the set. Neo Genesis has the best (near perfect) edges and corners right out of packs for WOTC holo cards. Centering only affects certain holos. Only the surface is horrible with the print lines, which it got the 9.5 grade, which is gem mint and still amazing.
Pay whatever you think it’s worth after your own research and going through your budget. It’s not a card that is easy to put a value on but there are price points for PSA 10s so you can start from there. Good luck!
BGS 10s generally sell for 1.5-2x PSA 10 will fetch.
I feel that cheaper BGS 10s may have a higher premium as a % of the PSA 10’s price because the price point is more palatable to a greater number of collectors.
