BBCE - Graded Packs - PSA

I don’t mean to add extra insult to injury on the whole BBCE fiasco, but as someone who has graded packs with PSA, aka BBCE behind the scenes the whole time, do we really want them continuing to grade Pokémon packs based on their knowledge/what was brought to light from the LP situation? Or maybe we can atleast help make the graded pack situation better for the future by showing they need a real in-house Pokémon expert.

Would it be worth compiling a list of certs/submissions that have fake graded packs that have made it thru the authentication process or tampered packs that are in slabs now? I was DM’ing with Nat Turner on IG (CEO of collectors universe) and he was asking for specific examples we could show to him. I know of a few, like the guy who opened a base set 1st ed pack and it had played unlimited cards, tca gaming had a pack submission come back with opened packs that weren’t graded, and I believe cooltrainerryan had a fake pack graded which was in one of rattles videos, to name a few.

If you all know of any additional examples we could put a list together to put in front of Nat and see if he does anything with it?

This comes from an old thread on the forum - thanks @thatpikachuguy for sharing

Eh. Them not being able to authenticate a booster box case doesn’t really indicate rather or not they’re capable of authenticating booster packs. I’m sure PSA is going to have a conversation with them about their processes or something, but I don’t see this ending BBCEs partnership with PSA.

It’s more about them publicly admitting that they don’t know much about pokemon in general instead of saying that a card board case was real and then it turned out not to be.

They are bad and should feel bad… OR hire someone who knows what they’re doing

It does though since we saw on camera someone who owns an “authentication” business yet they showed they probably couldn’t authenticate a banana as opposed to an apple if it was shoved in their (mouth.)
Anyone who saw what just took place now knows that if ANY product was EVER authenticated by that company, it is now 100% unauthenticated.
The boss man revealed that he thought the case was real because someone applied pressure to the stop tape and the fake label on the box. That was his evidence, THAT SOMEONE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE TAPE AND LABEL.
So their authentication process is either ran by an absolute baboon OR someone who takes bribes to authenticate things. Either way the reputation is dead in the water.
Most industries, just like this industry, is a revolving door of idiots paying other idiots to be bigger idiots.

Not to mention that not once did they suspect the barcode ending in 1E which was undocumented (and proven fake afterwards) in Base Set 1st Ed Cases

They are both the same pack from -

The one in rattles video is just a couple screenshots of the video in the above thread.

That case should have been way more spread. People deserve to know that maybe they are buying scammed graded packs

Yes definitely one to watch out for because the person who has it in their possession now does not believe it is a fake pack.

I sent it to PSA expecting them to identify it as counterfeit and use that as leverage to get a refund for an artset of packs I had received as compensation from a former business partner.
Unfortunately PSA graded it; and I had to eventually return it to my business partner as a part of a deal to cash out my sealed pack collection in order to recover the funds for those 4 packs. He has the graded one and about 9 others I believe, and thanks to PSA he became more certain than ever that they were legitimate packs. Not sure where they came from before him because everything else I ever acquired through his store was genuine

Again, you’re talking about how their process for authenticating cases, which is not the same as their process for authenticating packs. If they were so awful at authenticating packs it wouldn’t take this Logan Paul video for you to be upset at how bad they are.

But… they are awful at authenticating packs? There’s a fake one in this thread as well as a link to the slabbed + authenticated 1st Ed. Base pack I cracked open which was reglued and full of Unlimited Base.

Then we would have had this conversation without Logan Paul’s video and their failure to authenticate a completely different type of product wouldn’t have people talking about their ability to authenticate packs.

That’s not necessarily true though. Average people aren’t interested when stuff like this happens to “small” names.

People have known BBCE has authenticated fake or resealed packs in the past. They’ve also turned away packs that are legit. That’s been well documented on this forum. People have talked about it, it’s been done already.

Yeah, but it wasn’t in regards to this high of a value, or big name. I like watching tca gaming, primetime pokemon, and smpratte more, those people don’t generate attention like Logan Paul does.

My view on this is that it was a “known” risk among most serious vintage sealed Pokemon collectors and it never garnered such widespread attention for “low stake” packs in a niche collectible (in the grand scheme of things). Like you wrote, with a $3.5 million case and Logan’s viewership, this issue is more “widely” known among people - but not “surprising” news for the people who have known BBCE has authenticated fake or resealed packs in the past (as it has been documented over the years).

Graded packs are the last thing I’d every buy in the entire hobby. They’ve pretty always had nothing but downsides. Absolutely no guarantee that the pack isn’t resealed and blatantly fake packs still get graded. Packs getting a condition grade is pretty much worthless so the only thing theyre good for is to authenticate that they are real and aren’t resealed which they can’t do. Useless service that I wouldn’t ever waste my time or money with.

Not to mention the fact that they used to grade your pack and then DAMAGE IT by shoving it in a case thats too small and meant for old baseball wax packs. I literally cannot fathom how that makes ANY sense.
