Base Set 2 red cheeks Pikachu?

Hi guys. I’ve come across this:

I haven’t heard of a Base Set 2 red cheeks Pikachu. Is this legit?

Font definitely looks off, fake.

Incredibly fake card. Everything about it is off.

I’ve come across shadowless base set 2 cards. Fake, but interesting to see the shadowless window with a symbol none-the-less.

Counterfeit. The font is not the correct one and the copyright is wrong, it should be 1999-2000. Thunder Jolt explanation should also be in three rows not two.

Interesting. Why would someone fake a card like this?

Uninformed people buy counterfeit cards, counterfeiter makes money

Step back to reality, oh there goes gravity.

First things to lookout for:

  1. Discoloration of the card.
  • There is a flat yellow background, like a shadowless base set card (shouldn’t be this colour in 2000.)
  • Purple is too bright as well lit, this was faded in the original.
  • Everything looks nice and vibrant, too nice and vibrant  (could be filters, but can see the exaggeration)
  • Also the base 2 symbol looks faded
  • Also text looks a little disproportionate
  1. Think about the years and production.
The reason why there was a red cheeks / yellow cheeks back in 1999 was because Wizards of the Coast (WOTC) made a production error right / or fiddled with designs?
So by the time they printed tons of cards in 2000, you would think they would get it right, and make sure to print one variant only, so i would assume WOTC was printing only yellow cheeks by this point, as they realized their mistake, and learnt there lesson and fixed the original probably by this year.

and yeah, it’s supposed to be 1999-2000 for base 2, not 1999.
