Who are some Pokemon that are really bad in combat that you think have really cool designs? First one off the top of my head:
Mightyena looks far too menacing to be that bad in battle. What should have been Houndoom Pt. 2 ended up being a slightly better version of Raticate.
Golduck is one of those forgotten pokemon. Psyduck is super popular and has personality, but golduck never gets any airtime. Similar to Raichu. I think he has a solid design, but just not a powerful pokemon.
I’ve always been a fan of smeargle. I don’t know what it is but this card has always been a favourite of mine as a child.
I really like Seviper’s design. It’s such a cool looking Pokemon with pretty mediocre stats. I would assume it to be fast but alas.
Heatmor. It’s really such a cool concept but very average stats.

Onix. I read a theory somewhere that because he was Brock’s ace, and the first gym “boss” they had to design around it. Luckily he evolves into Steelix but Onix is pretty cool in his own right
if it had an attack stat higher than 45, charmander kids would get bodied and never see it evolve into charizard 
i absolutely love gen 2 pokemon, but majority of them are pretty awful sadly. not even sure how i made it through my playthrough of gold with my team being ariados and typhlosion as a kid lol
The trick is just to keep using Growl. Then when Growl won’t lower Onix’s Attack any further (you have to watch out for Bide, which is why you do this), Ember away because Onix’s Special is so pitiful.
The long way? Catch a Caterpie (an easier task in Blue than Red), train it up into a Butterfree, level Butterfree up to Lv. 12 so it learns Confusion, and the entire gym is a cinch.
That level 63 Psychic is classic Gamefreak. “Congratulations, you now have the speed and firepower of a level 30 Kadabra” crying inside
it sucks because i love mightyena but everytime i play emerald it is useless. hes a dark type physical attacker and before diamond and pearl all dark moves are special. So if youre trying to use him youre gonna have a bad time

As with many middle evolutions Wartortle falls short of many factors of “coolness”. But he has always been my favorite starter of all! He and Blastoise could easily swap places for me.
I would be a founding member of the Dustox hate club. Garbador and Dustox can share the same dumpster.
Masquerain on the other hand is awesome.
