I recently saw this one mentioned on Discord coincidentally. It’s signed by アクノウチ (Aknouichi), a “researcher” for Dark-Type Pokémon and assistant/coworker of Dr. Sameji.
Here is a Masaki (Bill) with the same signature at the bottom. The other two signatures are from Dr. Sameji and ハガネザワ (Haganezawa), the researcher for Steel-Type Pokémon.
All cards with the signatures of the Dark- and Steel-Type researches seem to come from the same event of December 19th, 1999.
@quuador, thank you so much for that information! That’s pretty cool! I was hoping to send it to PSA at some point but I doubt they’ve verified the signature.
Hey all,
Can anyone help me ID this signature, please?
Me and my brothers tried going CSI on this last month but reached a dead end.
All I can tell is it’s someone at PCL (either an employee at PCL, or someone signing at a PCL event)
I can’t find any illustrators with that name, it’s kinda debatable what the name is. One noticeable thing is how they add a hook to certain letters/numbers (7, G, L)
I know other illustrators attended that date as other cards are signed with the same date.
It would make my week if someone could bring some closure to this!
I also found this in a backlog, again I can’t tell what it is, I would think it’s the illustrator of the card “Tomokazu Komiya” although I’m struggling with the rest of the signature other than the date.
Hello, Would anyone familiar be able to help. With this signature. I heard that Dr. Sameji had a face signature and the shark one. I thought this was Dr. Sameji but have been told by someone that it is Ooyama. Hope to hear anyone’s thoughts.
I think it’s a “Fake Dr. Sameji” signature. And I don’t mean it’s a fake signature. I mean it’s Dr. Sameji’s imposter, kinda like the Imposter Professor Oak card. The signature itself looks exactly the same as the Dr. Sameji signature, just without the shark. Here a pretty clear example of that signature as comparison, so you can see what’s written is the same as on your Misty card:
Dr. Ooyama also has a “fake Dr. Ooyama” imposter figure. Here an example of the “fake Dr. Ooyama” signature at the back of the Tropical Present Jumbo from the Fan Club Summer 1999:
Although I couldn’t find any examples of a “fake Dr. Sameji” signature with a quick google search just yet, I’m pretty sure that’s what it is, though.
But maybe @linkdu83 , @alecpokemon , or @pottsinator whom all collect signatures have a more abundant answer, or could correct me if my guess is wrong?
@quuador, forgive my ignorance, but what’s the difference between a “fake signature”, and a forgery from a guy who makes a lot of forgeries (i.e. “fake Dr. Ooyama” and “fake Dr. Sameji”)?
I think my English is too bad to explain this… Unless you meant it as a joke.
Anyway, “Fake Dr. Ooyama” and “Dr. Ooyama” are basically two different persons. Kinda like how “Professor Oak” and “Imposter Professor Oak” are two different persons in the Pokémon universe. So the signature on his Misty card is defintely real, and not a counterfeit/fake signature. But it’s a signature from the person “Fake Dr. Sameji”.
Small note, although it might only confuse you more I guess: Ooyama and Dr. Ooyama are both the same person irl, but Fake Dr. Ooyama is a different person. I’m pretty sure I saw a picture of Dr. Ooyama and Fake Dr. Ooyama standing next to each other, but for the love of me, I’m unable to find it… I’m pretty sure it was in an interview of one of the TMB contestants that was linked here on the forum, though.
