Hitmonlee was one of my favorites as a kid, but I like Hitmonchan more now. Still waiting on an alt art featuring both.

I have to give the edge to Hitmonchan. It was more about how that green holo background “popped” seemingly than any other card from that era than the actual Pokemon. The shoulder pads also reminded me of Cell games Gohan and/or the Gundam kits I was building at the time.

I’m a Hitmonchan kinda guy.
Grew up watching boxing with my uncle. He had loads of VHS tapes of fights like The Thrilla in Manila and so on. Always had a fondness for Larry Holmes solely because of his jab. Who else has a jab for 20 that shattered base set?

I always felt like Tyrogue was such a poor design. They could have done so much with a pre-evolution.

yea ok
additionally we have 2 cards showing hitmonchan throwing a kick, implying he’s more of a kickboxer/mma artist who specializes in striking. not a single instance of hitmonlee throwing a punch and you’d be hard pressed to win a fight with only kicks. hitmonchan on top.

The only thing Primeape does better is being emotional about it, but everyone knows that that seldom helps you in a fight ; )

- Move Pool: Hitmonlee is capable of learning several punching moves through TMs, HMs, or breeding, including Focus Punch, Mega Punch, and the elemental punches (Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch).

translation: Hitmonlee has to rely on AI machines or the exploitation of other Pokemon to do what comes naturally to Hitmonchan

Always liked Hitmonlee better. Fun design and concept. Not sure why he gets overshadowed alot from Hitmonchan.

I was always partial to Hitmonchan but haven’t thought about why until now, I think it’s just because he was featured in the anime when I was a kid
