Are delivery drivers targeting cards these days? (My experience)

This is kind of funny. I’ve heard people mentioning drivers are picking up on the fact that some people are shipping pokemon cards that can be really high value, and they’re just getting stolen before they reach your house, or on the way to PSA/CGC/Whatever.

Today I’m fairly confident I had my TAG Submission kit stolen, likely the driver thought it was some high value cards.

I’ve had stuff stolen by fedex before, and in general I avoid using them.

Here’s a timeline from today (and kind of what happened last time they stole my packages too.)

-Email saying delivery was attempted, (It wasnt)

-Call fedex, lady on the phone doesnt want to help me, on phone for about 20 minutes then I get another email saying the package was delivered.

-Check for the package, nothing there, double check the email and it says it was delivered down the street.

-Go to the address (Random pizza place) and they say nothing was delivered there, even check their security footage

-called fedex to report this

This was all in the span of about 45 minutes, and similar to what happened when I had my packages stolen in the past, they say no one was there then it gets “delivered” to a random place nearby.

then, while typing this

  • I got a call that it was delivered to a random address nearby, (drugstore fedex pickup) went there and the package was there, looked to be resealed and the box itself was really dirty (as well as the submission kit inside having a footprint on it). Also saw the driver on the way there, haha.

Anyway, glad they just stole the empty box, haha. I think the guy either didnt have time to fully check or checked and saw nothing was in there so he dropped it off.

What do you guys think? Are drivers targeting these packages?

There have always been reports of isolated incidents. Hard to figure out if its poor service or intentional crime.

A few anecdotal reports usually gets the conspiracy wheels turning. As the saying goes and as @lyleberr already indicated, one should not attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by incompetence.

For your TAG submission kit to be stolen, you would have to assume (a) the delivery driver knows what TAG is (highly unlikely), (b) doesn’t know enough to know that it isn’t actually valuable (more likely), and (c) opened and resealed the box but still misdelivered it anyways (unlikely). The much more likely explanation is that your FedEx driver doesn’t know what they’re doing. If you’re a delivery driver and you want to commit theft and fraud, why steal traceable, graded trading cards when you can just steal iPhones or something much easier to resell?

I don’t believe that there’s an epidemic of graded card theft amongst delivery drivers. There will always be anecdotal cases which should be investigated, but I’m not going to stop shipping with FedEx or any other carrier out of fear of theft.

I’d be much more suspicious of patterns of packages going missing that are headed to known high-value recipients from high-value senders (e.g. from Heritage to PSA Vault) than––no offense––someone’s stepped-on TAG submission kit. But again, we have little to no evidence this is happening above and beyond isolated incidents.

I agree with you, however I do think the driver (or someone else) opened my package and looked through it, then shoved it back in the bag and resealed it after getting called by the office.

I think that assuming they knew what could have possibly been inside was a bit too out there and I got caught up in being frustrated with them :face_with_hand_over_mouth: I wanted this post as a bit of a reality check and I got it. So I appreciate you explaining your ideas on the matter.

I’ve had many high value items stolen from fed ex, so it’s just a bummer it keeps happening. I guess it’s just a problem in general for this area and not pertaining to cards at all.

I apologize for making a post like this that could stir any more fear into people sketched out by shipping their cards. I was under the impression that it could be a growing problem lately but I suppose if there is a problem, it’s just theft in general

No worries, nothing wrong with asking for opinions and information! That’s what E4 is for!

That being said, in many cases it’s hard if not impossible to tell the difference between “lost” and “stolen.” I remember a user a couple years back unfortunately had almost all of their collection disappear while shipping via FedEx to the PWCC vault. While it may have looked like it was stolen, the cards turned up a couple of years later being sold by a shop. Based on all the available information, the package was just lost, then found and sold at auction by FedEx because they paid an insurance claim and as such owned the package. Eventually the cards made their way to a TCG shop which listed them, but there was no evidence of theft. When a high-value package goes missing theft may be the first thought, but many times that’s not the case.
