So I am now on my 4th claim with USPS about a lost package. This is getting ridiculous…
Had my first lost package alert in February 2025, then the next in March then later March and now filing for a potential 4th package being lost that I shipped early May…
Thankfully they haven’t resulted in a loss for me due to the USPS policy of up to $100 of insurance, but this last package was $185. So more than likely will lose $85 for that transaction…
For some context, I very rarely ship packages now a days. Since February, I have shipped ~80 packages. (4/80 is 5%) This is a very alarming rare for my business and have never lost so many packages in such a short period of time.
I print all labels at home with a label maker, hand deliver them to the post office, scan them in to the kiosk, drop them in the drop box, and be on my way.
If this continues to be a problem, I will have to raised prices on shipping to off-set the cost for additional insurance of higher end items.
Has anyone else been dealing with lost mail through USPS? I Have been thinking about switching to FEDEX and giving them a try.
-=UPDATE=-
Well that is package 5th.
Have lost hundreds of dollars in items now…
I guess I will just go with FEDEX now…
Also I believe how I pack my items is how they are being targeted.
I include this stick on the back on my packages.
3/4 of them were “lost” on the way to their destination. 1/4 items weren’t scanned after myself scanning it when dropping it off at the post office. Also all items were scanned and dropped off at the same USPS office. I believe another package will be lost this month being the 5th due to a package not being scanned in over a month ago… Not Fun…
Looks like I will switch up the location on where I drop off packages starting on the next item I ship…
I’d definitely try and get usps on the phone as this is a pattern. USPS defaults to the In transit scan, which normally means it is moving towards the buyer, and will receive a scan at the destination office. Since none of these have received an additional scan, some over a month, that isn’t normal.
I’ve only shipped one package via USPS this year and it was lost. Ironically, it was the package I shipped to you for the sig exchange. It seemingly disappeared after it hit ATL distribution facility. I just checked the tracking and it’s the same status as months ago. Maybe there’s some shady stuff going on
bruh somethings up with that location, ive shipped hundreds in your timeframe and none got lost
you should get them scanned at counter since the self-service scan is not a real scan for insurance purposes, but seems like they got a scan after so thats not the real issue
I do this as well, plus when they scan it, they also weight the package, which could be helpful in certain situations. An extra upside, you get to know the employees and they would be more willing to help you look into missing packages.
It isn’t too bad honestly. Every one has paid out. Upto $100. Sadly this past one was an international package that has 0 insurance policy so I am out $180 …
The Walking Dead did begin in Atlanta… Northern Georgia clearly has some issues right now.
I ship very often via USPS and almost never have an issue. For packages >$300, I always use signature tracking, which has a very low rate of missing packages.
I would absolutely speak to someone higher up in USPS and show them the pattern. Also put in a missing package case for each missing shipment to draw extra attention and searching in the area.
If you are getting nowhere, you could go the nuclear route and contact the Atlanta USPS Postmaster.
