Really interested in finding out more information about BREAK cards, they are almost universally dirt cheap. I know they were not well received, I know they were largely unplayable.
However, I wonder about their pull rate, I read somewhere that they appeared at the same rate as other Ultra Rares in their respective sets, but I am not sure that is true or not.
I know from my personal experience, it feels that way when opening packs.
Any information about BREAK cards would be appreciated, I personally like them (I know I’m an odd man out) and fortunately they are typically dirt cheap. Any information helps! Thanks.
I don’t know if they’re in any other set besides evolutions, but from the many evolutions box’s I opened I can tell you that it was either 2 or 3 per booster box, I can’t remember which. They took the place of the reverse holo which really bummed me out, I wasn’t into the break cards at all!
They were in a number of XY sets, however, that was my experience as well is 2 or 3 per booster box. I am wondering how many others had that pull rate. If that was the case, that would mean that they are an even harder pull than regular Ultra Rares.
I had similar pull rates from BREAKthrough-, BREAKpoint-, Steam Siege- and Evolutions openings; about 3 per box.
I’m still going back and forth on whether I like them or not. Their uniqueness, short lifespan, overall card design and ways of playing them in the game are pro’s to me. But I find their (sometimes) ineligible CG artwork to be quite a letdown.
That said, a complete collection will look nice if you can display them horizontally.
Like so many other things in the hobby that are dismissed when they are in print and new, I believe BREAKs will eventually be loved by a small but dedicated portion of the hobby.
Acquiring these are so easy and cheap atm.
However I’m biased though, as I said, I actually like them and am overjoyed to buy on the ultra cheap, especially if these are a lower pull rate than standard Ultra Rares from sets.
I am hardly leaning towards the BREAKs out of XY Evolutions, as they are popular Original 150’s and that is one of the most popular modern sets, that many people are likely to try and complete sets of for years to come.
I think the biggest thing about these cards is how the Pokemon themselves looked. The horizontal cards are a odd concept to start, so the cards better look bad ass if that’s the power move. We saw this in the legend full art 2 piece cards. The cards were weird let be honest… but the artwork took them to a whole new level. The look distracted from the layout. With these the biggest thing I hear is how it looks. It’s either too flashy, god-like, etc… Some of them are even hard to tell what Pokemon is since they are so flashy, and unfortunately look similar across the board. Most of people I remember opening these when they were getting back into the hobby for evolutions had the reaction of “what the hell is this?” rather than being super excited. There will be a niche down the road for sure, but the legends with always beat them out for the horizontal cards.
@nish I’m glad you like them! I was just simply stunned anyone likes them. I’m tempted to send you mine lol. But I really like when people find cards that no one talks about to collect. Price wise that’s when us collectors find the best deals. So continue collecting whatever you’re into. Everyone likes different things. I didn’t mean to talk them down too bad. I’m personally just not a fan myself.
