Anyone have experience buying from TCG.Collector?

Does Anyone have experience buying from www.instagram.com/tcg.collector/

I’m about to buy a 1st edition jungle box from him, he seems very legit, but I’m newer to the hobby and could use some input if anyone has any. Big purchase for me.

Thanks in advance!

My input is purchase using PayPal Goods & Services. If he says Friends & Family only, virtually walk away.

Oh jeez really? He wants a bank transfer for the 27k or he wants 29k to cover the fees…

He referenced a ton of sales he’s made and islandgrown also hardcore vouches for him, but again truth is I’m new to all this.

The other thing is I didn’t plan to open it until a year from now for a special occasion, so purchase protection wouldn’t help at that point, so I’m trying hard to find the most legit source I can.

It’s a big purchase and being new to the hobby you should be careful.

I’d suggest searching through old posts on e4 to learn more about what to check for to verify the authenticity of the box. Also watch YouTube videos of purchases/openings of the box.

Best if luck to you getting the box!

I’ve heard a few mixed things on PWCC is all, are they very safe in terms of being legit boxes? TCG.Collector says he has them straight from an ex distributor, however he gets a ton of new boxes in constantly so that concerned me a bit.

I’ve bought a few items from other buyers using TCG Collector’s ad services. He’s always been a pleasant person to deal with and has gone above and beyond to let me know when certain Mew items are put up for sale. I can’t say I’ve made a transaction with him directly, particularly of that size, but he’s got a legitimate reputation. Just my two cents. Hope it helps.

Thanks a ton for your input! I just don’t wanna wait a few months and they’re 40k or something as so many are being opened and bought right now!

I have watched a good amount of videos and references on how to spot for fakes, from my understanding it does look legit, atleast in photos…

To be completely honest, the account’s been around for quite some time and I believe the ownership has changed once or twice.

The level of professionalism has decreased a bit, though that doesn’t necessarily correspond to your question.

I’m sure he has made plenty of sales, and I believe it to be a felony if he were to scam you for this kind of transaction anyways.

But that being said, I would proceed with caution if this kind of money is being transferred. You may be perfectly fine purchasing from him, but I emphasize that I myself, would not bank transfer such an amount to somebody on Instagram who I don’t even know. It’s totally your call, and there are other possible options you have.

You can either

  1. Decline purchase and purchase elsewhere (If all else fails)
  2. Request he accepts PayPal Goods and Services (Suggested)
  3. Send him the money through bank transfer (I personally wouldn’t)

I’ve never heard anything negative about the person behind the account, but I also never heard anything negative about @pokebutler on Instagram, until yesterday. And I’ve been following him for four years.

I’m usually extra cautious with this stuff, but that’s just me.

PWCC will give you much better protection compared to tcg.collector, 100%.

Imo, this is a better option

Legit box guaranteed or money back. Reputable source. Could even resell for more if you decided to do so because it’s from PWCC.

This is how the box looks -

What if I don’t plan to open it for a year or two though? How long is that protection from it being fake for? I tried to find this on their site policy but either im blind or couldn’t.

Thanks so much for everyone’s help… really means the world to me.

Wait hold up…he also gave you the option of paying 2k for Paypal goods and services…that’s also an option you can take you know.

Basically he’s trying to get 27k and it’s up to you to get him that amount. He’s providing you the option of 29k if you want Paypal protection, or 27k if you’re willing to take a risk.

There no purchase in the world I think that would give you a protection of 1-2 years from what I can tell.

Yea for sure, my point more is, I pay the 2k extra but what good would it do me since I don’t plan to open it for a year anyways :slightly_frowning_face:

you can always do an in person cash transaction  plane tickets might be cheaper then fees depending. also if you have any close relatives or friends to middleman the deal for you. lots of options just need to choose whatever you feel more comfortable with.

There’s two more variables you did not consider in your risk assessment though. While the guy is reputable based on general consensus, there’s still the risk of:

  1. Seller takes your wire transfer and doesn’t ship anything
  2. Seller takes your wire transfer, ships via a cheap shipping method (or heck can even be an expensive shipping method but the package gets stolen or lost), package gets lost/damaged and you get something damaged or nothing. Seller won’t care at this point most likely since technically he did his part and shipped the actual product.

Why not just crack open the box and check the packs, and then just not open it? It’s not ideal but that way you don’t get anxious for 1+ year that your purchase can be a complete scam. All Jungle boxes now are from 3rd party sellers…even reputable sellers can make mistakes sometimes and won’t know it’s a scam box until they open it. Reputable sellers would 100% help you out if you opened the box immediately and filmed it, but I can’t imagine them helping you out one or two years down the road. If you were a seller and you sold a jungle box that you presumed was legit to a buyer, and 2 years later the buyer complains to you that it’s fake, would you simply reimburse/help them out?
