He wanted to buy half a 1st Ed base set PSA 9 non Holo set. Asked to use bank deposit from Germany I’m in Australia. He contacted me on Instagram from my eBay listing.

Was weird but I agreed. Then he said he needed my address so the bank could confirm.

I said nah

He ghosted

Then I got an email from eBay today saying my account was compromised and I needed to change my password

Why couldn’t they just use paypal?

From my experience, many in Germany don’t feel comfortable with PayPal.

this is actually true, the bank needs the recipient’s address for a wire transfer

why not paypal as a german? awful currency exchange rates when going through paypal, on top of the fees

I know the feeling… I live in The Netherlands and it’s similar. All fees are piling up these days, and become more expensive with every passing day… You have the price of the item (duh), but then also shipping fees, eBay fees, PayPal fees, currency conversion PayPal fees, and depending on the price of the package import fees. Oh, and in addition loads of sellers aren’t shipping worldwide, so then we’ll have even additional middleman fees (including shipping from the seller to the middleman).

It’s actually pretty sad when you say it all out loud (or should I say type) like this, haha.

But to answer the question of the topic: no, I haven’t dealt with that guy. I do know that some sellers/buyers from both Germany and France prefer bank transfer over PayPal in some cases, though. Although they also prefer domestic shipping (the sellers) usually, so I would have assumed a buyer from Germany trying to buy something from Australia would just use PayPal…

That last sentence is a massive red flag mate. ‘Sorry that this is such an Odysee’ screams google translate and then instead of ordinarily says ordinary. Of course there are exceptions but… Nah.

I don’t see anything wrong here and if he’s paying per bank transfer and the money is on your bank account there’s very little chance that he can get it back. So even safer than PayPal. And he indeed needs your address for it.

Edit. Not responding for 9 days is not cool, but I doubt he used that time to hack your ebay account lol.

It’s all good. I just wanted to know if anyone had dealt with him. Ghosting as soon as I refuse address and say PayPal after over a week of back and forth is suspect.
