Top picture features my original lego cosmic fleet voyager purchased in 1986 and assembled when I was a kid. It may be missing a piece or two but it’s otherwise pristine and intact. Below that in the drawer are other vintage sets from when I was a kid, mostly Blacktron and space. I have some castle sets too. In the cabinet is every lego mini figure set through the middle of 2019. The unopened set in the envelopes is a complete sealed series 1 set. On the top is the (relatively) new lego voltron. Kids are generally not conducive to lego sets but this one is kept on a high shelf. Not my wife’s favorite but it’s on display in the kids’ playroom.
@jonandek, damnnnn thats a cool looking voltron. My wife politely asks that I finish building my last model before buying more. But 7000 pieces is going to take ages.
I really like Lego (fun fact: plural of Lego is Lego), but I echo what others have said about them taking up too much space. I currently have built and displayed the UCS Falcon, Tie Advanced, X-Wing, and A-Wing as well as the Saturn V, Parisian Restaurant, and original Black Seas Barracuda (though several of these are now “displayed” on the shelves in my closet since we got a new kitten and puppy (i.e., balls of destruction) a couple of months ago), but that’s pretty much my limit right now with what I’ll set up.
I also have stored away but still built some of my favorite sets from childhood, including the first Hogwarts Castle, several of the original 1999 Star Wars sets, and some MOC stuff I was pretty proud of as a kid.
My favorite theme is the desert Adventurers theme, and I have most of the sets sealed (missing some of the really rare stuff but have all of the sets that were readily available in US stores). I like all three of the other Adventurers themes too, but again, I’m just concerned about space (especially because my spouse doesn’t like having Lego displayed anywhere outside of my personal spaces like my office =S). There’s some many vintage and modern sets that I really like (notably, all of the Ideas sets are awesome, and I’d love to collect modulars), but I’d just have nothing to do with them but hide them away if I owned them. It’s one of my favorite things about collecting cards–they’re just so space efficient compared to most collectibles.
Loving this thread! I wouldn’t say im a “collector” but I do still have all my Lego from my childhood. Back when everything shut down in March, I spent quite a few days organizing and assembling them all from one massive pile of bricks, then disassembling and storing in individual bags by set. The dining room table was a disaster for weeks:
I still have all my Lego from when I was a child, which is a lot. Basically all my birthday, christmas and ‘inbetween’ gifts were all Lego. I was suuuuuper into it, playing Lego was my main free time activity from maybe 5-11 years old. I have basically something from every theme from 2000-2006 + a few great older sets I inherited from my older brother, like the Space Unitron Monorail.
However I almost never kept the boxes or the construction plans, because I’d quickly disassemble the sets and customized them to meet my needs.
This is about 5% (by volume) of all Lego I have. It’s just the stuff that is still somewhat recognizable, most of the other sets ‘rest in pieces’ (HAHA). It’s a bit sad to look at in that condition,b ut what can you do. Great memories still. I was mostly into Adventure, Star Wars and Bionicle with Vikings being the last few sets I ever got.
@jonandek, That is one of the most 80’s posts I’ve seen!
@originalera, Man that police truck was one of my first purchases getting back into legos.
@muk, That blacksmith shop was so cool. I impulsively bought it during release and had no idea it would be so rare. I wish they did more classic castle.
I collect Lego. So not my sons or my husband but me.
I have a lot of Star Wars, Harry Potter, different trains (some from the 80’s)
Everything has been build once at least except for the Death Star, I never found time to build it and it’s the early version so everthing is still in the plastic bags only the outisde box was openened, because we needed to bring it from Cali to Europe.
Recently I bought the Beatles Yellow Submarine, such a funny box.
Currently building the large Harry Potter castle. My oldest son bought it for me as thank you after he finished his Master (we paid his complete university bachelor and master)
There are a few other boxes on my wishlist, but I need to “earn” them.
I have set some goals for loosing weight and every time I reach one, I order a box of Lego.
Already earned the Harry Potter train and now thinking about which box I will have next.
Pretty sure Diagon Alley will be one of them.
I was/still am (although havent posted since youtube has been pretty stank lately) a lego youtuber for custome big star wars creations. Haven’t really been too active for a year or so now after that 9th movie really wiped a lot of the joy from that fandom lol

I got the Hogwarts Castle the day after Christmas as an impulsive reminder of my childhood (Res-Q kit 6479) and had so much fun that I have since gone on a bit of a binge. My wife is currently working on the Elf Club House while I build Central Perk. Legos are awesome!
All lego is a good investment. Some more than others. I’ve been buying and selling Lego for a couple years now. The Mario stuff isn’t selling well, wait for them to clearance it the same way they clearanced lego movie 2 stuff. Buy it clearance you will get a better ROI.
after getting a few fairly large sets in 2020, display spaces are running out. yes, i don’t like to store my lego as they are too beautiful to just be hidden away. i’ve recently started to collect some of the minifigs instead. i need to find some good ways of displaying them…
I’ve actually only seen pictures. I don’t personally own it. I would just check the dimensions of the ucs falcon vs. The inside dimensions of an ikea coffee table. The one I saw they put sand in it for a tattooine scene.
