An Opinion on SMPRATTE's Pokemon Go YouTube Video

I am saying the debate that ensued between myself and Gary was about the benefit of increasing market prices on his collection.

Yes. I made that original point as well, but that was not what Gary and I were debating. Obviously the debate deviated from that specific point you highlighted.

You said you read all the posts. It should be clear the conversation deviated.

In regards to the point you highlighted. I still firmly believe that anyone that has a vested interest in a market is going to promote it. I am happy to talk about that with you if you disagree with that statement. To not promote a strong market for the business you are in would be a poor business decision, regardless of the market.

So I was saying that it would be wise to take any statement from an “interested” individual, with a grain of salt. Because they have a financial interest in the market continuing to go up, making them biased.

@charmaaander your posts are irrelevant on the topic of the thread. Somebody lock this fuckin’ thing, Scott already gave his last answers with memes and @jkanly already showed your “quantifiable” schematics. If Scott felt like ranting on his video then so be it. We all agree to disagree.

Pays for soda*

I realize that the debate divulged, but the point you were trying to make remains. It really doesn’t matter, as I don’t care. I agree with Gary on the merits that his liquid assets go down as the market price goes up. I also understand your side and agree that Gary benefits in a net worth gain. However, the reasoning behind getting to that conversation I still don’t agree with.

You brought it up again in the last two paragraphs; although, you changed it drastically to a generalizing point instead of an at Scott point.

Generalizing you win, I can’t ever debate whether someone is correct or not based on their merit when you generalize. There’s going to be some people that lie, and some that don’t. If you want to go back to the at Scott discussion I’d suggest you reread the thread and tackle the points I’ve made against your arguments. Till then this is a dead debate and thread might as well be locked.

You don’t get it either.

I just don’t know how else to put it for you. If my card is worth a dollar today and I keep it forever, how am I benefiting if it’s worth 2.00 tomorrow? Just answer exactly what am I benifiting under that circumstance.

Unrealized gains might not be benefiting you right now, but they will defiantly help whoever gets to sell your collection when you finally kick the bucket (probably a wife or kids).

So if the benefiet from unrealized gains can’t be realized until after he’s passed on, how does that benefiet him?? If you know Gary, you’d know that when he says something to be true, he means it. Those asset may as well be set on fire and destroyed because he’s not going to sell.

This thread has digressed from a friendly community discussion about Pokemon GO to the merit of a single collectors investment interest. I personally do not feel this is an appropriate discussion to be had here… unless Gary is open to discuss it with you his personal collecting motives privately there is no reason to be discussing this.

Even if a person is certain about something right now, they’re not a time traveler and can’t be certain that opinion will not change. How many things have changed about you in the past 10-15+ years? How many things have you done you never could’ve imagined doing years ago? Absolutely nothing is certain.

Additionally, I’d wager it still kind of benefits him if family sells it after he kicks the bucket, because you can at least be content you have a solid net worth your family can make use of after you pass.

My point is that whether or not the asset benefiets his family is none of anyones heres business. This entire digression comes off to me as simple jealousy. Nobody benefiets from this discussion except the trolls.

The conversation in this post has gone morbid. Why are you even discussing Gray’s death? Its like you want him gone or something because it will somehow benefit the rest of you because their will be more opportunity for you to get a hold of those high end cards. The guy is still alive and collecting what he wants. Leave him be. He just so happens to have been around during the inception of Pokémon and saw an opportunity and took that gamble. This post is getting derailed.

Are you seriously accusing people of wanting Gary dead because of jealousy? Jesus Christ, if that is really your perception of this argument, then I’m out. Y’all need Jesus.

Can an admin please lock this, this has gone way out of hand.

Nobody said that. Gary is awesome and has done a lot for pokemon tcg.

Just stop using Ad Hominem based on Gary’s postition and focus in his arguments. It keeps the debate healthy.
