1st ed base set zard

From what I am told, there are (3) of us going for it. IMO, I think the seller is just bouncing us interested buyers into each other to start an internal bidding war. Nothing wrong with that as I know it is business. I’ve been reaching out for over a month and he will not allow us to go and buy it so who knows if it will sell any time soon.

I had a patron right at their buy price but the seller said it sold for 52k. I’m sure they received significantly higher offers and reconsidered. Anyway hope someone can close a deal!

I had reached several “almost” deals with that seller from mid-January onwards. First time, he decided there was no way to ship the card that he was comfortable with. So I needed to fly to him in person. Then the date kept getting pushed off further and further. He was responsive, then not. We even talked on the phone at one point. My take - he is having a hard time parting with it. It seemed like he was looking for excuses. He is a big pokemon fan. He opened the card from a booster a long time ago and kept in in his collection. He only recently graded it. I hope someone can get a deal done but I found it challenging and got frustrated.

This doesn’t surprise me. In the E4 Discord, I was telling everyone that the $60k buy it now price for the trio was a damn good deal. This was a strong 10 with a thick stamp, the kind of Zard that sells for over $50k. And the Blastoise and Venusaur are adding another what, at least another $12k in value?

But people can’t help themself, if they see a best offer option they have to use it, no matter how fairly priced the Buy It Now price is.

So it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that as soon as the seller took the listing off of eBay he got a rush of panicked buyers offering the original $60k he was asking for or even more and that this may have caused him to back out of a deal he had already made.

Also noteworthy - After a delay compared to some other sets, 1st ed Base prices have started surging lately. PSA 9 Charizard hit $9k, PSA 8 Charizard is up to ~$5.5k, PSA 9 Venusaur sold for $1.75k, we got a PSA 9 Blastoise offer on this forum this morning for $2.5k. Among other sales. I’m sure all of this has to have an impact on the value of the PSA 10 Charizard, too.

It’s still on right now as I talked to him last night. Jonandek and I spoke of this card briefly as we had the same experience, haha. I agree with Jonan, I believe he wanted to make some cash, now he is back n forth on it due prices getting wild as well as his personal atatchment to them… I can’t hate on that

I’m very certain the zard didn’t sell for 75k, no guy with 75k is dumb enough to pay that price without shooting an offer slightly lower if needed. is the guy not gonna accept 74k? 70k?

my guess is as follows from a recent buying experience

I just bought a blissey for a price i won’t disclose, but well below the ebay price of 9k.

if you noticed, there isn’t best offer there for that blissey and now everyone thinks it sold for 9k. not true. if you ask the seller to offer the price to you, and you accept, the sold listing shows full price but in fact a lower price was paid.

i ran out of the five offers i could give as it was all declined. i pinged the seller my final price and he sent me the offer, which i accepted. boomz - no best offer price accepted on ebay sold history

It’s a flaw in the ebay system which unintentionally manipulates the actual selling price. if i had to guess, the same thing happened to that zard; someone got rejected five times, pinged the seller with a good enough offer and finally secured it

That’s fascinating and might explain why some things seem over-inflated. I also noticed that smpratte’s PSA 9 T17 sale comes up as $1,500, even though I think I remember it was actually $1,200. Similar situation?

Did a PSA 7 really sell for $5000?

Just because I think it is funny, about a month ago there was a thread about guys complaining that if there is no “Best Offer” option to not email them. Feels good that I argued and you brought it home for us! :unamused:

As for T17, I sold my PSA9 privately for $2300.

In this case the listing did have a best offer option, so your gloating is invalid

think so seems legit time will tell I guess, although there is an 8 currently in auction at 5700 if it ends above 6k it would make the 7 sale more believable or justifiable on a side note I think it was the only 7 on ebay which may play a role in its price

Awesome, such a great card! Should’ve bought that listing for three of them for $2100 in 2017 :man_facepalming:t2:

There was another that recently ended at for $4800 so it seems a few people are willing to pay that.

EDIT: took me a minute to hit submit so I missed the other people post
