1997 Carddass Size Difference in PSA Case?

I just started looking into the 1997 Carddass set, specifically PSA graded cards, and I’ve noticed that there are some serious gap differences between the edges of cards and the edge of the frame. Does anyone know if this is a normal occurrence or what I could be looking at here? I have also noticed with some PWCC cards (some I purchased and have on hand now) that the card appears to have a sleeve layer on the backside of it. Did Carddass cards get distributed with some sort of clear layer on the back that could have been removed by the purchaser? Just trying to understand and appreciate any knowledge that can be shared.

Very loose within the PSA case:

Fills the PSA case and shows clear sharp corners like a sleeve layer (I have some on hand to confirm it is behind the card in the case):

All I can say is it is very odd that PSA incorrectly encased the top one with the wrong size. I too have a couple carddass cards with the right size. It really sucks seeing that certain cards got bad case sizing treatment. Such a shame.

Maybe someone knows whether it is something they used to do, and then updated their slab inner dimensions and now we are good moving forward. My Slowbro is correctly fitted. Cert late 4xxx

@greenpotatoes,

The first picture is them placing it on a oversized case with a mylar sleeve behind it. They do that for Yugioh cards and Pokemon non-TCG previously (they don’t have cases which fit the non-TCG dimensions).

The second picture has a better fit case. They still place a smaller mylar sleeve behind it (sometimes they don’t). Probably up to their discretion. Now any new submissions sent to them will probably come in like the second pic (better fitting with rectangle mylar sleeve).

If you want the snug cases like the second pic it’s pretty much 4xx above only. You’ll never find it in a 2xx as they only recently began to get their shit together.

Still, there’s the option for reholder if you want.

@fiery, thanks for the explanation! I see now that the frosted border is thicker on the Pikachu example. I hadn’t heard before of PSA including a sleeve to increase thickness before but I like the idea. Always happy to learn new things here. I have yet to personally own one like the Blastoise example, but will remember the reholder option in the case I come across purchasing one.

@brendantheclayboy, thanks for mentioning how yours is encased. Good to know and I will most likely reholder mine if I manage to get any older certs in the future.

From what I can gather they started using the correctly fitted cases some time between cert #s 446 & 449:

Not sure about the sleeves.
