For me it’s a sealed copy of each of the eight theme decks from the holy trinity (Base, Jungle, and Fossil) and a copy of the Carddass File 000. Everything else is just for fun and may come/go over time.

I think that the cards are less important than the experiences. I think everyone should have something in their collection from these experiences:

  1. A modern set product they opened themselves because they thought it looked interesting.
  2. A card that was traded to you.
  3. A card that you picked up from an event where you met other collectors.
  4. A card from a local gaming store.
  5. A card from when you first got into the hobby that you felt was special.
  6. A card you saw online, loved, and saved up/worked hard to obtain.
