Your first graded card?

Thats an old cert! Do you think youll ever reslab it for a more current up-to-date version? I can see its already been reslabbed once in the past.

My first graded cards were the ones I graded myself in 2015. I still have the Lugia ex!

Here is my first PSA order! I opened a 1st Ed Jungle box, and it had a couple butterfree error cards. Also when I first started collecting, I thought the fan club Eevee & Porygon were too expensive and I would never own them! I still have both copies, and just noticed while photographing them the Porygon is a holo bleed! :sparkles:

Was the porygon in 10 worth $300 or so back then?

This was before grading really added much of a premium. I remember seeing them listed raw at $200 and thinking how could I spend that much on 1 card. I can’t remember what they went for in PSA 10 back then as grading was so insignificant.

I could only imagine how scary 200 raw was back then. I recall being terrified of $1000 when I came back in 2018 and that was with pokemon actually being popular again lol

It sounds crazy today, but back then a PSA 10 1st Ed Charizard was $700, and not flying off the shelves at that price!

Man I need a Time Machine…

I’ve thought about it a few times over the years, but part of me wants to keep it as a sort of little time capsule to how grading used to look.

I actually didn’t know it had been reslabbed at some point! Since I’ve owned it for so long, I always just assumed that was the original slab.

Does anyone know rough timeframes of when these old certs would’ve first been slabbed?

As early as 2000 if that’s the original label

What an excellent resource!

Wild to think my Charizard might’ve been in a slab since before Neo Genesis was released in English?!

It’s pretty crazy that people were grading back then yeah. Maybe it was Gary lol

Could be! Though I’d be kinda shocked if Gary was submitting played condition cards back then! :joy:

My first submission was to PSA in 2003. At the time you got 6 free submission with your membership. Here’s the top 2 with cert #'s:

1998 P M VENDING PROMO 65 ALAKAZAM-HOLO PROMO-VENDING MAIL-IN
GEM MINT 10 Cert #11683508

1998-99 POKEMON JAPANESE POKEMON JAPANESE PROMO GRAND PARTY TRAINER DOUBLE BLACK STAR GEM MINT 10 Cert # 11683511

the other 4 included 2 Japanese Masaki Gengars, both PSA 9’s, a Japanese Porygon Fan Club Promo also a PSA 9 and another Japanese Alakazam Vending Mail-In PSA 8.

The Alakazam 's were both Titled “Vending Mail-In” while the Gengars had “Holo Masaki Promo” in the title.

Wow I just went back through my email to check :skull:
August 2019 I bought my first graded cards

I bought the other 3 within a month or so… Put off buying the Nidoking and Nidorino because they were over $30 :joy: was waiting for them to come down.

I don’t collect nidos anymore but guess I have to hold onto the Queen now just because she was my first.

My first sub—May 2020. $10 ebay purchase a month or two earlier. Great good fortune. Took some of the sting out of all the cards I missed out on if I’d only gotten in during Pokémon Go instead of just before the boom.

I pulled this card in 2015 when opening vintage packs was not a big deal.

Venusaur was my favourite starter back in the day and I love this artwork. Kept it safe for about nine years and then decided to grade.

I love thinking about something like that as well. It’s all so very relative.

People were selling off their (first edition) Jungle cards back in 2003 on flea markets for 50 bucks. Collections that can now be sold for 5K.

This was in the first batch of cards I sent for grading. This was the first card I got as a gift from my fiance since we did not know what theme decks was you can imagine our suprise when we opened one and it had no packs and just a lot of the same cards
