WTB BGS 9.5 1st edition charizard

I am on the hunt for a BGS 9.5 1st edition shadowless charizard! I’m looking for a strong 9.5 in particular so perhaps you all can help.

MUST have at least all 9.5s
Preferably with a 10 subgrade on any of the 4 grading parameters
MUST be thick stamp
I would be willing to offer in the 25-35k range due to the wide variety of subgrade options.

Let’s network and figure something out!

Most importantly. Stay safe and healthy everyone

Good luck hunting! Quad 9.5 is super rare!

@yz2428 Agreed. I rarely recall seeing BGS 9.5s available with all the sub-grades being at least 9.5. Usually the BGS 9.5s I see have at least one 9 in there.

I would think a BGS with subgrades like that would be a strong 10 candidate and would have been crossed to PSA awhile ago. Best of luck with the search though!

Hey everyone I appreciate every one of your insights! Hoping for the best. Poke rev just sold his BGS 9.5 which had a 10 sub for surface to a friend of mine. Freakin guy bought it before me haha but oh well! Just gotta be patient

there are exactly 16 cards from BGS’s pop report that would fit your description of quad 9.5 or better. out of those, only maybe 3-4 that would be quad 9.5+ or better. of course, of the 16, there are 2 pristine 10s in Gary’s possession, but i don’t think he’s really selling, but is entertaining offers.

didn’t it have a 9.0 subgrade? i remember seeing this card on his IG or something. are you able to share what the sale price was?

Thank you for the info man. From what I’m reading, my chances of landing a card like this are very slim.

I spoke with Gary and he has those 2 pristine 10s which he said he would never sell last time we spoke. He also has a single 9.5 1st ed charizard with 9/9.5/9.5/9.5 subs which he might crack and crossover to PSA.

Yes the one from pokerev had:
9 centering
9.5 corners
9.5 edges
10 surface and that sold for 24k I believe.

That being said I don’t think BGS 9.5s, even with a 10 sub should be exceed 30k in today’s market. Of course it depends on rest the subs. It so hard to say with those

As @fourthstartcg said, the problem you’re running into right now is that any BGS quad 9.5 or higher is a serious candidate to be crossed over to a PSA 10 and some of them probably already have been. If you’re selling you would be nuts not to at least try to get a PSA 10 given that card goes for $55k minimum right now. (Unless you’re selling a Charizard with a shy backside)

Having said that, it might also be the case that some people with a quad BGS 9.5 Zard already tried getting it crossed over to a PSA 10 and it didn’t work.

So a card like that should go for something between a PSA 9 and a PSA 10. So overall I think your offer seems very fair.

Good luck!

Thank you fellas. Back to the drawing board I go!

Dont forget that an attempt whether successful or not costs $3,000 these days.

That’s a pretty good reason to not make more than 1 attempt.

The other thing to keep in mind is that there’s a good chance that some of the BGS quad 9.5+s were originally PSA 9s.

$3000 to cross-grade? Since when?

You might be able to get away with pretending that the Charizard is only worth $49,999 and paying $2k to have it cross-graded (in which case you’re still not fully protecting the full value of your Charizard on the insurance)… but yeah.

Hes talking about the service level you need to submit at which isn’t true. You just put down the lower service level and psa will upcharge you after, but if you have the min grade they won’t upcharge you if it doesn’t hit that grade. So basically it’ll cost you whatever service level you want, but $3k if you get the grade.

Yeah, spot on. You’ll be paying a good deal less than $3k if it’s declared to be a PSA 9, so the risk of cross-grading isn’t as high.

Seems like a win-win, you cross grade it with a minimum grade of 10, and then only if the crosses you’re on the hook for 3000. If it doesn’t, you’re only on the hook for a much smaller amount.

what if there is a scenario where someone can’t afford to pay for the grading for when you hit a jackpot 10? does PSA take payment plans or something?

in MTG, a quad 9.5 has a very large premium over a base 9.5 (when 1 of the subgrade is 9.0). unfortunately, in Pokemon, we don’t have enough data points to see just how the nuisances in the subgrades compare to the PSA 10. but from most of the BGS 9.5s i’ve seen, they are absolutely beautiful cards and a value buy between a PSA 9 and PSA 10. in my opinion, a BGS 9.5 will become a nice middle ground for collectors in the near future, especially with people priced out of PSA 10 for some high-end cards. i mean when you have 5-10x price difference between a 10 and 9, there’s gotta be a middle ground, right?

PSA will just hold it until it’s paid for.

But I have no idea if they will take pay installments. I’ve never heard of that before.
