Yeah, spot on. You’ll be paying a good deal less than $3k if it’s declared to be a PSA 9, so the risk of cross-grading isn’t as high.

Seems like a win-win, you cross grade it with a minimum grade of 10, and then only if the crosses you’re on the hook for 3000. If it doesn’t, you’re only on the hook for a much smaller amount.

Even that lower amount for hitting a PSA 9 would be $1k now, but yeah.

It doesn’t matter, PSA will charge you anyway if they recognize that a card’s value is much more than the $99 limit allowed by bulk.

Now granted, submitting expensive cards through bulk can be totally fine and PSA won’t bother charging you more for many cards much more than the $99 limit (although they’re supposed to and it’s totally possible that they can).

But with a card like a 1st edition Base Charizard I would suspect that they’re going to notice that card and that it doesn’t belong in bulk. In which case you’re getting charged $1k for a PSA 9 or $3k for a PSA 10 anyway but you also don’t get the benefit of the insurance in case the card is lost.
