I have been realistic about my expectations on actually getting all the boxes. It may take a while and it may never even happen, so I have bought loose packs for many of the remaining sets that I need. I still would like to open the boxes if possible though.
Last set that I need is Neo Destiny 1st edition all 4 packs arts to complete my sealed pack collection! I will pay $300 minimum, possibly higher if they are in great shape and/or unweighed. Then I may go back and get unlimited packs where applicable, but I am not sure on that yet. I already have those about half complete but havenât made it a priority.
Lol I outbid him by 3k initially. I am sure that is exactly how a true auction listing (by a reputable seller) would go. It would probably hit $20-25k even with everyone trying to get it knowing how few and far between legitimate boxes are these days. I know I would be in for $15k or so after fire sale-ing a few items quick. Maybe even $20k myself if I was feeling brave. Makes me sick that I couldnât pull the trigger last year at ~$10k.
All that said about $13k is all I have easily ready to go today, and I donât want to waste anybodyâs time if I put $18k or something then they are interested and I donât have the money together yet. So this may likely go up soon; we will see.
It says he intends to open at the top of the post. This concerns me though. I understand tracking down and/or grading Base 1st is hard, but there are always Charizards and Blastoises and Raichus in PSA cases on eBay. The number of Base 1st boxes is so small itâs insane. Unless somebody finds some abandoned warehouse in the middle of Montana or something astronomically improbable every Base 1st box opened slashes the amount out there by a significant percentage. And for what? A chance at some high-dollar cards banking on the fact that theyâre pack fresh? IDK mate itâs your money, but if I was looking out to buy something this rare I would certainly not open it.
Cracking base 1st boxes arent too bad. I mean if a had a few of them id keep half sealed and crack half. The common and uncommons in psa 10 are seliing at such a decent price and there is the the thrill of pulling zard and getting a 10
Says you. Do you have any idea how many quiet collectors there are? I found this out years ago in the video game collecting world, there are so many things you donât see going on behind the scenes. Boxes are trading hands, collectors probably have cases of 1st edition and it might not ever come out of the woodwork.
I would never not open one personally. Too much money on the line. Plus I am after the experience. Only a few boxes between me and my goal of opening 1 of every set made. I was lucky last year to open a few packs including one holo (ninetales) from base 1st edition. The rush I still feel is real and just like I recall from my childhood.
People donât realize how shady collectibles are. I know for comics there were warehouse finds that went hidden for 10- 20 years. A certain pool of dealers had access and everyone else was oblivious.
Paid pennies on the dollar for the stuff, they were going up 10%-20% a year, you could borrow money for 5%-10% a year, everyone was making money.
This was from a warehouse from a publisher, not just some 1,000 book find, it was huge.
There is a lot more stuff lying around then people realize, but it doesnât matter until the stuff hits the market and actually has an impact on the price. Also, most of the people with the stuff are smart enough to let it go slowly.
