A listing for a 4xxxx just ended for someone who tried to outbid me at any cost on one at $463. He ended up paying far more than he thought he would, meanwhile there’s one listed at $420 that hasn’t been touched in days with a 2xxxx cert. It’s been happening.
@ccrntrade ,I am really looking for the card in pristine shape as a 9 as possible before I buy the PSA 10 inevitably. I don’t mind paying a bit more for a card to sit on it for longer. I never intend to sell.
Problem is, the listing available doesn’t have pictures of the back. Which is why I am staying away until I get more information on it. I’ve heard PSA has really cracked down on their grading policies and 2xxxx 9’s are probably closer to 7s or 8s now.
@somepokemonguy, the exact reason I don’t want to pick that one up.
Sure. But when it’s clear and obvious that newly certified cards are more scrutinized than older ones, there’s nothing that can be done in terms of collectable value. You have to adapt to the certifier and the market who will inevitably catch on to it as they have thus far. No choice.
Go look at the one that recently sold with a 4xxx for $468. Then look at the 2xxxx cert one on buy it now for $420. Tell me they’re the same grading specifications.
As a collector it is ultimately your decision on what you buy, but I wouldn’t limit yourself to a specific cert number. Maybe PSA wasn’t as harsh back in the day but even if that were true that doesn’t mean all older graded cards don’t deserve that grade. Just get pictures of the card before you buy.
It’s not the first time there has been a buy thread with mention of a premium to 4X million certs.
I get wanting to buy better condition 9’s than worse condition 9’s. I get that some people think they’ve gotten harsher grading due to their biases. What I find funny is no mention of the actual card itself. No stipulation of preference of the issues not being off center, holo scratches or whatever. Just literally buying a cert. Truly big brain.
The problem lies in the fact that the card itself, when valued by collectors, KNOW the difference between a 2xxx and a 4xxx cert. If both were the same price, you would tell me it wouldn’t matter if the certification is older or newer? And that a premium isn’t understood for a newer cert? Surely, this community knows the difference.
