WTB: 1st base trainers (MP, HP, damaged)... and Chansey

Updated 11/21/2020

Thanks to all of you who have helped me build my collection of old school decks this past year. Despite all the recent impressive price increases the prices of played 1st base trainer rares havn’t moved much and if anything they’ve gone down. Same is true for a few heavily played 1st base holos.

These are the cards I’m always buying (all 1st base, bad to okay condition). I’ll buy all that you have to sell.

$200 Chansey
$70 Lass
$60 Computer Search
$50 Super Energy Removal
$35 Pokemon Breeder
$35 Item Finder
$25 Scoop Up
$15 Professor Oak
$12 Plus Power
$10 Bill
$10 Energy Removal

Thanks again everyone

I’ve pretty much finished up the 4 decks I set out to complete except for some scarce trainers usually only available at a psa 9 premium. Closely related to this last project of mine I’d now like to start building up a play set or two (4-8 copies) of every 1st base card, and I’m going to start with some of the holos as well as the trainers that are difficult to find. Prices are negotiable based on condition but I’m looking for moderate play (psa 3-6) on the average.

$250 Alakazam
$180 Chansey
$170 Clefairy
$220 Gyarados
$190 Hitmonchan
$15 Machamp
$180 Magneton
$250 Mewtwo
$190 Nidoking
$210 Ninetails
$180 Poliwrath
$190 Raichu
$340 Venusaur
$190 Zapdos
$70 Dragonair
$40 Dugtrio
$35 Electrode
$100 Computer Search
$45 Item Finder
$120 Lass
$40 Pokemon Breeder
$35 Pokemon Trader
$35 Scoop Up
$100 Super Energy Removal
$13 Professor Oak
$10 Bill
$3 Basic Energy

2 copies of Pokemon Breeder $35 each

Thank you to all who have helped me these past couple weeks.

The following spreadsheet details my progress in building these decks. Under “need” and “MP” you’ll find how many I need and what the price is. (Raw moderate play and/or PSA 3-6)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pretty excited for this. (7/2/2020)
3x TCG World Champion Jason Klaczynski (’06 ’08 ’13) created a blog detailing the early Pokémon TCG formats including the first, which I’m in the process of building. I’m looking for raw moderate play (or PSA 3-6 that I’ll crack) 1st edition. My price = what I believe to be market price (MP) based off recent personal purchases & eBay sold listings. I’m accepting a large condition range so lets find the right price together.

I value this moderate play 240 card 4 deck collection at $9476

HAYMAKER

side note: moderate play Lass is 10x the price of other trainer rares simply because of the low PSA10 pop

BUZZAPDOS

ALAKACHAMP

side note: 1st shadowless Machamp has the same rarity/scarcity as the others

i’m looking to sell most of my psa 1st edition base. Are you looking for just ungraded

Respectfully, it’s a rule that you’re not allowed to ask the OP (at least not publicly) if he is interested in cards that he didn’t specifically request in the OP.

The OP clearly states “I’m looking for raw moderate play (or PSA 3-6 that I’ll crack) 1st edition.”

So if you only have higher graded cards, the OP has not expressed interest in them, and this isn’t the place to ask if he’s willing to reconsider his position.

Nice offer for played cards…

Can you describe what you considered MP? (scratched foil with foil lines showing, or small hole in card, or how heavy the back whitening can be. Does crease make it MP To HP?

Those look like LP cards based on the picture…

@millenniumnostalgia, are you planning to play with the decks or just preserve them? When I first saw the blog a few years back, I immediately wanted to build these decks to play them. For me that is tier 2 nostalgia behind opening packs. I ultimately decided against it because, I realized I had no one to realistically play with. Just curious if others feel the same way.

@dblast , Hell those in the pictures above in my original post are near mint or mint. The price of those are 2-4x the loved cards i’m looking for which have somewhat harsh scratching throughout the card, let alone mere foil lines. Here’s some examples of the condition I’ve been going for, however these photos fail to capture just how beat up these cards are.

The second Chansey was psa5 but i threw the label (first psa cracking). Alakazam was ungraded but id predict psa2 and i consider it heavy play. The others are moderate play with Blastoise possibly light play. Holes, creases frayed/split corners all scream heavy play/damage. Back whitening ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ don’t pay too much attention though its taken into consideration.

@multistack , you got any psa3-6 on my list?

@ajwalker13 , I challenge you to a Haymaker mirror match. Tech as you like. Oh yea… it’s on.

dblast makin it rain

you already know

that I did not use 1st edition cards.

But that’ll make a nice collector’s showcase.

@millenniumnostalgia, Glad to see an eFour member bought my VG3 Zapdos. That scratch down the front was so ridiculous. Hopefully you get some better condition cards for your decks

@ty1, Pleasure doing business with you. I do appreciate condition so I own various psa10s, but in '99 a lot of us didn’t use sleeves and seeing scratched cards like these brings me back. There isn’t a better place for this scratched Zapdos than in these nostalgia filled decks.
