WOTC 2002 Neo Destiny 1st Edition VS 2003 Skyridge

I’d say your right Alex but no way to tell for sure.

I do think so but wouldn’t bet my life on it;)

Where would you place Crimson Invasion in the line up?

Under Ultra Prism, S&M base, and Burning Shadows. Weak full art trainers. Acerola and Lillie are the only ones that matter, really. :stuck_out_tongue:

I would put Skyridge in 2nd as for 1) I am heavily biased and 2) it was produced last by WOTC

Also more people are attracted by crystals, also the skyridge holo’s are much more beloved than the neo destiny holos

IMO Destiny (especially 1st edition) is a clear winner when it comes to rarity

Neo Destiny’s unlimited print makes it more accessible than Skyridge would ever be.

I was watching the anime a few months ago and one of the episodes actually features a crystal Onix which I thought was extremely cool

So crystal Pokemon are a thing, would’ve been nice if they made the Onix or even a Steelix crystal in Skyridge or Aquapolis

Neo Destiny also had the first set of ultra rares. I personally prefer Neo Destiny as well, it has more historical significance and I like Shinings more than Crystals.

I don’t get why skyridge or early e series is more desirable than neo as you say.

C’mon!! Shinings we’re so fun to chase and break…

Crystals are really nice as well as the awesome artwork in e series. Hate those dam reverse chase sets, quite hard to complete. Maybe that’s why demand is higher.

I think both are super awesome, just I have more memories with wotc, and that’s what’s nostalgic for me.

Skyridge for me tbh even with the hype. Difference is, a better mix of art and a shorter print run compared with the additional print run of Destiny unlimited. I can see why people prefer Destiny though, especially WOTC collectors

I would say destiny as well. I believe skyridge is on a BIG hype train right now due to social media and people are over paying for those boxes due to the hype.

I don’t think people are necessarily overpaying for boxes just that after this rapid growth there probably won’t be much movement in the box prices unless the Crystals double.

Hmm I disagree here, it’s a very popular set, lovely artwork and such a huge set. I mean who doens’t love 32 holo’s in a set + 6 crystals.
The print run was limited so its rather scarce. I posted multiple polls on several social media platforms and 9 out of 10 times, crystals got more love than shinings really.

I just love both sets honestly, would be a hard choice for me but I would go with skyridge as my prefered one, altho I already have neo Destiny 1st ed PSA 10 complete.

When I was young and growing up with pokemon I had never seen nor heard of crystal cards. Whether that makes them more valuable due to scarcity I’m not sure. I do remember my best friend having a shining noctowl and that was definitely one of the rarest cards I had seen growing up (sad, I know). Maybe since there are more shines released they had a wider reach and can rub on more nostalgic nerves.

I hadn’t heard of Crystal cards as a kid either. In 2005 I received a Crystal Nidoking in a trade with a friend and I still wasn’t aware that it was called a “Crystal” card at that point in time. I had this Nidoking until I sold it around 2014, and believe it or not… I still didn’t know that it was a Crystal then either. I just knew that it was a cool looking holographic Nidoking card, end of story. Aside from seeing Skyridge and Aquapolis packs in Kmart and a comic store once or twice, I had no knowledge of most of the e-Series sets until the 20th anniversary hit. The e-Series sets came out at a time when I was more into Beyblade and Yu-Gi-Oh! cards and all 3 e-sets were scarce, even back in the day. Pokemon’s popularity was almost non-existent before Gen 3 hit and the late 90s/early 2000s fad had worn off.

The Shining cards were obviously rare to a young kid because it very clearly said “Shining” in the name and the card looked different than any other, the Crystal cards don’t have that. Aside from nice artwork and being secret rares within the set, a young kid would never realize that it was anything more unique/special than a standard holographic card. Shining cards on the other hand, you knew.

Wow, so I just went back into my eBay feedback and found the exact listing of the Nidoking that I mentioned above. I must have looked up info on the card because I clearly remember having no knowledge of how rare a Crystal was in 2014… check out the price that it sold for

Only 4 years ago this summer - Sold for $9.99 in decent condition. The card had some minor whitening around the back but no creases and nothing major. The auction title is funny looking back, this was one of my first ever items sold on my own eBay account. *This was an auction too, not a buy it now.

Mint 1st Ed Neo Destiny is much rarer than e-series. Skyridge sits in binders for a decade and still grades 10s

They are both great sets, but it is very hard to find mint Neo Destiny 1st edition cards. Trying to find any shinings that are mint and not graded already is a massive task
