Worthy of a BGS 9.5 possibly?

BGS tends to be harsh on centering, and that would probably be no more than 8-8.5 centering grade from the Base Set Charizards I have reviewed over the years. Also looks like a good surface scratch on the front and some other issues like the rough cut. Honestly surprised this didn’t get an 8 at PSA, but it is what it is.

Regardless, anything can be possible with a grading company. I have seen crazier things get high grades at times.

That’s lighting off the plastic lol

The “ surface scratch “ was on the slab and was wiped off easily.

Lighting off the plastic that holds the card in place. The card wouldn’t have been given a 9 grade if it was as you said. Especially with how hard PSA grades shadowless , and 1st Ed charizards too keep pop low as possible.

Might be good for next time to add more photos or disclose what flaws you see since you have the card in hand.

It’s hard for anyone to give you any advice with just scans with most people seeing that as very bad edge wear. We have all seen PSA give 9s or 10s on non deserving cards, so it’s always possible a bad edge got missed.

I totally understand you and yea that’s true indeed some slip through psa , this one didn’t. Wouldn’t have bought it if it did mate :innocent:

It can be a bgs 9.5 it just depends how many times you’re happy to try for it. It’s simply a numbers game.

Different strokes for different folks and all that, but half grades drive me nuts. I’d much rather have a card, any card in a PSA 9 than a BGS 9.5.

Congrats on an awesome card and good luck if you try it!

Respectfully, I don’t think there is any chance thats a 6 or 7. Classifying all four of those corners as having whitening is INCREDIBLY harsh lol.

I was talking about the left edge making it a 6.

All 4 corners do have whitening, 2 are pretty obvious and the other 2 have just a spec.

What do you think of this grade wise?

Looks like $15 wasted for plastic to me, ha.
But in all seriousness, OP asked if the card was gem mint, and I pointed out the issues I saw. Not sure why I am getting reamed for calling it a lucky grade as a 9

Fair enough lol. I’m not reaming you. We all assess differently. 10s should look better but they are what they are.

I learned after the fact that the apparant edge wear or bad cut is just light reflection, maybe that is true for that slab as well.

I’ve actually got graded gem mint cards and 9s that have the bad cut all down one side etc. There was quite a lot of blunt blades but doesn’t seem to affect grades as it’s not wear it’s how it was made. Some pics pick it up better than others it’s all about the angle.

Are you going to give bgs a shot?

Sorry if you feel that way mate, I know what you said about the card being hit with corners , edge wear and all that but as you learned that is the light reflection on the slab and those corners are not as bad as I have seen other BGS 9.5’s get but it’s definitely a lottery when it comes too grading lol

Also I think your getting some attention because you keep saying this card was lucky enough to get a 9 and that’s where I think most may say lol too as it’s a very good 9 ,in my opinion , and after seeing it in person it’s a worthy contender for a BGS 9.5 ( possibly with lower sun grades who knows )

I think I just may actually, the more I read the comments the more I see people saying there’s always a possibility and grading is 50/50 most of the time so I just have to take my chances and at the end of the day if it doesn’t get the cross grade then I still have a super mint , strong 9 in my opinion shadowless zard

Win win situation. GL and let us all know. I’m actually going to do similar in the future but try twice and that way I get double my chances.
