Perhaps they planned Singapore 2027 simultaneously with the release Pokémon Winds & Pokémon Waves, where it seems to be regionally inspired by Indonesia/Malaysia/Phillipines. They also announced in May the grand opening of Pokémon Center Bangkok so it might be an overall staggered promotion of Pokémon across Southeast Asia in the coming years
As an American who typically likes Worlds in the US, I’m thrilled to hear Worlds in Singapore. SF was too crowded to be any fun, every experience was a wait in line. This was the first time in my life I’ve been uncomfortable in a crowd. There was no respite from the throng of pushy Americans hardly anywhere in the venue on Saturday.
I am stereotyping, and hoping Worlds in Asia is inherently more organized. Personally I can handle the heat.
I also think this signals a completely logical continued push into the Chinese market. If Worlds in China is politically undesirable, Singapore may be the next best thing to promote to a similar audience.
As a singaporean, this is big news for us!
With Singapore being quite a small island, I am not sure how they gonna handle the crowd especially fans from all over Asia Pacific gonna travel down which directly would affect flight and hotel prices.
Mind you, I am grateful Worlds are going to be held in SG as I am from a nearby country and I could finally have the chance to enjoy Worlds experience.
I’d imagine Singapore could handle the crowds, Pokemon is probably still quite a small event compared to the Grand Prix or other events they host?
I think the Americans that don’t go will be replaced by Chinese attendees. SF worlds was simply a quantity issue. I had the same experience as you, I didn’t even bother with any lines. In fact I was going to meet with people and didn’t because the area was too crazy. Someone mentioned there were 60k people counted at worlds, that doesn’t include people like myself or others who didn’t register for any events.
Pokemon is similar to Disney were more people like it today then ever, yet there is still only one location. Naturally that’s going to overflow. With that said, for E4, maybe we should start doing multiple meetups. Perhaps attaching one to Nationals or the National in Chicago, along with whatever worlds location, especially Singapore as I doubt some can justify a 24 hour flight.
Singapore is small but has very efficient services so should be able to handle the crowds.
Plus the location for the tournament setting (Singapore Expo) is no stranger to hosting mega international tradeshows, tech/fintech events or festivals with some of these events probably drawing even bigger crowds than Pokémon worlds.
One thing worth noting for first time visitors is that the Expo is fairly far from city center (at least for Singapore standards haha) so if you plan to do sight seeing as well, then you may have to do some travel optimisation
NAIC this year in comparison to worlds was peaceful in comparison; highly recommend meeting there instead as there were a lot of places to sit and hang out! Lines for demos also like pokopia were probably 1/10 of what it was for worlds.
So is it most likely for Worlds to be hosted at Singapore Expo? Are there any other locations that it could potentially be held at?
They literally showed Singapore Expo in the announcement trailer, it’s 100% confirmed to be there.
I just saw a clip from the Kallang. So it’s 2 locations?
All official sources only list Singapore EXPO as the location.
Yeah there will be two locations. The tournaments events will be at Expo.
The ultimate grand finals (Sunday) will be held at the Singapore indoor stadium - which is at Kallang
