Worlds 1st Celebrity Pokémon Base Box Break Charity Drive

i know you’re trying to be polite but this has nothing to do with fine motor skills. were talking about him ripping the packs out of the side of the box versus opening it normally/with a knife/ from the top/like every single normal box break.

see video here:

was it to prevent the top from folding over / leave potential for reseal?

This was incredibly enjoyable, what a great event! Thanks Gary!

Watched almost the whole thing while working on college homework. Job well done I enjoyed the whole thing, especially the cake, and all for a good cause.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. It was amazingly successful. It exceeded everybody’s expectations. Now we move on to the long awaited signed poster part of the charity drive.
To those concerned about the box opening, in the 20 years I’ve been opening that way a card has never been hurt and once again I can say, no cards were hurt in the making of the livestream lol. The box will be beautifully displayed as a memory of the money raised and the kids that were helped.

That was something special to watch last night! I love how Pokémon is so versatile and touch so many people in so many ways!

How can you know this? Did you have a chance to inspect the cards before and after this rough treatment?
If I did this to my cards, I would fully expect them to take a hit condition wise.

I honestly think you should reconsider how you handle cards.
Very surprised to see you taking so little care in this regard.

He’s just making sure his share of the market holds steady! ;D

In all seriousness this event was awesome and I can’t wait to see where we go next. Bright future with meaningful help where it’s needed.

I think some of you guys are too paranoid. Sure he could handle the cards better, but it takes a lot more than that to damage cards.

I had to close the comments last night as it was too much.

I think you should reconsider how you talk to one of the pillars of the hobby.

And I think you should consider adjusting you energy towards constructive comments/actions rather than trying to throw negativity. I guarantee Gary has more passion and love for the hobby than you or I. Move on my man.

I’ll talk to anyone here just the same as everyone else. I don’t care if you have 87 PSA 10 Charizards or 0.

Plus, I don’t think I said anything too outrageous.

My constructive comments are that I think he should reconsider his handling, regardless of any damage caused or not caused. I have in fact caused damage to cards in a pack doing something similar (luckily modern), so I’m not just “trying to throw negativity”.

i get everyone here is on their knees for gary’s approval but i am very surprised at how most are just saying “he knows what he’s doing dont worry about the cards being ripped out the side of the box”

  1. this method 100% does not help the cards condition.
  2. this method 100% does increase the chance of damage.
  3. we still have yet to hear one good reason why the top fold was left in tact.

the box would look great as a collectors piece regardless of how it is opened.

i just dont buy it.

very surprised at the comments simply writing this off

People here are not trying to get Gary’s approval they are just expressing support and positivity for a great event/ cause.

Gary made a video a few months back explaining that this is the way he opens boxes to preserve the seal and so he is able to display them with the seal almost intact, its his personal preference. In any case has opened more boxes than most and has graded more cards than most, long before these were worth 20k so yes he does know what he is doing.

once again just more irrelevant info on the number of graded cards he has somehow making it OK. you brought that up as some sort of justification how pathetic

ECHO THIS.

I dont need Gary’s approval. I dont need Mr. Coolman’s approval. I dont need Saltsniper’s approval. Fact of the matter is, Gary is one of the KEY architects is building this hobby for the rest of us to enjoy. He deserves respect. If you dont want to give it, im glad youre making yourself known… i will steer clear of you.
