I’m shocked. They cancelled E3 today. I guess a little collector con can’t afford to shut it down and survive the following year. They are really holding on as they keep saying they are still opening. I think vendors will pull out though slowly leading up to the last week but people are hoping Arita won’t.
Some organizers care more about money than health.
Regardless of what you think of this particular virus and it’s risks, from a public health perspective it’s a much larger risk to host something like E3 where possibly the majority of people are flying in from somewhere else and then returning home after. Compare that to a local convention where you’re crossing paths with people you could on a normal day and any spread that occurs will be contained in that local geography.
In the end, mostly likely the headline “1000 new cases of coronavirus linked to video game expo” is potentially why a lot of these events are shutting down
Whether this is relevant information or not many universities are suspending classes until further notice. My university basically told 25k students not to come back after spring break and have banned all campus services until at least April 10th which is mostly be longer. They all also pulling all international students back to the USA and requiring self quarantine for two weeks for all students who have traveled over spring break. For reference my state has had 3 cases and all have recovered. It’s crazy to imagine that all these preventative measures are being made over something like this. Obviously everyone is trying to cover their bases so just a heads up for everyone to be safe and make smart choices and don’t bank on being able to travel anywhere.
This is why I’m leaning towards thinking most major tournaments (including Worlds) will be cancelled. The entire point of Worlds is to get a lot of people from all over the world in one convention hall and have them play games with 10+ different people while shaking hands before and after each match…
Especially with the outbreak really taking hold in Europe, I would be concerned. I think Angela Merkel said she expected 60-70% of Germans to become infected at some point.
At this point the only thing that will stop the spread is China-style authoritarian lockdown of entire countries (likely not feasible) or South Korea-style massive public health action (getting less likely to have an effect as time passes).
March madness in ohio and my university have both been cancelled. At least some organizations in the US are starting to take action before Italy repeats itself here in the states

I live in Dayton and am a huge UD flyers basketball fan, have been for my entire life. Crushing to see no fans at the games when they are having the best season in history and a likely number 1 seed for march madness. All this after 4 confirmed cases.
This is going to be a huge economic impact as well. Especially if Ohio sets the standard moving forward. Kinda wild how much power the governor has where he can just snap his fingers and shut things down…
Worlds isnt until August anyway, so we have a while for it to get much better or much worse.
We won’t find out if worlds is cancelled for at least a few months, I would guess.

Theyre closing major universities in michigan. I know Michigan state university (56,000 students) are all on a no-class contact effective today at noon until april 20. Thats a long time for so many students. Online methods are being set up at the moment. All after a corona case in the county the university is in. I suppose better to productive rather than reactive eh
Edit- for those who don’t know, MSU is a MAJOR international school. I cant remember a time where at least a quarter of the students in my class weren’t international students. A whole lot of international flights back after spring break.
Some 5+ hour international flights are $300-$500. Has anyone seen any ridiculously low flight prices? Fishbowl (mobile app) had a few threads like this.
My company banned all non essentially travel, but we’re continuing client related travel. Some clients have requested we stay home, but not my current project.
If I’m home a month, I’ll catch back up on Pokemon stuff every night. Might actually be a chance to get ahead. Trying to see some positivity in the midst of the pandemic.
April 20th? That’s crazy. In fact that’s when we end this semester at OSU. We’ve shut it down until the 30th of March but I can definitely see us shutting it down until Autumn. We have 90,000 people down in Columbus counting students, faculty, etc. with a lot being international like MSU so it’s gonna be pretty hard to contain it by the 30th
Now 2 weeks sounds a lot more reasonable than 5 weeks. I was pretty shocked when i saw the email, thats pretty nuts honestly. I dont even know how theyre going to organize it all. I hear they are potentially not having a graduation ceremony. A lot of anger from parents who want there kid to get what they paid for (its not that deep) but yeah. Looks like we’re in a damn similar situation. I wish them luck on this, bc i got no clue what the hell theyre boutta do lmao.
Sidenote: i was an absolute legend in the MUT field. My lineup was unmatched. Would throw in a green fantasy aaron rodgers on the field just because i could. What a throwback holy hell, i was 15 back then haha

@milad101 they don’t know what they’re doing, our school’s pres didn’t even contact any of the professors when they released the statement, so some of the profs were on the osu subreddit saying that they thought the statement was fake when he initially released it lmao. Legitimately have no clue how they’re gonna do online ochem labs or anything stem related, it’s a guaranteed shit show for the rest of the semester(plus my forced meal plan is being wasted lol)
and arod was god tier. I was like 11 when the first mut was created(09 I think) and it kept getting better until it peaked in 2012 imo(hence the name 
) then it fell off a cliff like most EA sports games do
Travel from Europe restricted for 30 days. NCAA March Madness will be played in front of limited crowds. Major NBA teams playing in front of empty stadium. This is not a drill. I guess if all these measures prove effective then worlds could have a shot but I wonder how they will change the qualification requirements with so many major point gaining tourneys being cancelled in the interim.
