Love the spelling of pokemon on this one lol. imgur.com/gallery/llW8zWg Check out the 3rd pic again.
I speculate only/wild guess: maybe its for the Chinese market and unlike in western Countrys were the Colour Red is associcated with Stop /Danger in China its associcated with Luck or Joy.
That is way more sensible an answer.
Chinese and Korean Base Set Cards were printed in Australia, where the orange logo colour was also used for the English prints of Jungle/Fossil that were also done in Australia. Why that decision was made, I do not know. I imagine it was either done deliberately to distinguish them, or it was a necessity choice by the printer.
This is the reason why many, if not most, of the Korean base set sources have come from Australians.
My 3rd print fossil packs and theme deck say made in Australia on them. If you check the first set of pics I’ve done it says made in the U.S.A. on it.
Someone at some point says it was changed in an attempt to stop counterfeiting. This story has stuck and people just regurgitate it. Noone really knows why but a counterfeiting measure by changing a colour? Really? I bet most on here if they think about it will agree that idea isn’t a particularly good one. Love to hear everyone’s thoughts…
I got confirmation from a wotc employee that it was to stop counterfeits.
Is it possible to ask them how changing yellow to red would help them do that?
Base set was first released in Japanese, then English a few years later. Everyone in the world can see what the English product looks like, and attempt to recreate the product in their language. Well once the product actually released in that other language, it was with the red logo, which means all the early counterfeits that were made with yellow logos were obviously fakes. Just my 1 cent (due to inflation, not worth 2 cents anymore)
Lol like the last bit. I like your logic there.
