Rhydon, because of his design.

I have mentioned this on the forum before, but I’ll say it again: in my first ever run-through of Pokemon Red as a nine-year-old, I actually used my Master Ball on a Rhydon in the Unknown Dungeon. In hindsight, I probably should have just used an Ultra Ball and then taken one ladder down to use my Master Ball on Mewtwo, but that just shows how obsessed I was with Rhydon as a kid.

I also typically use different Pokemon every time I do a run-through of a Pokemon game, because I like to mix it up. But until this day, I almost always have a Rhydon somewhere in my rotation (assuming Rhydon is in the game).

And don’t even get me started on how unnecessary of an evolution Rhyperior was…

When I played emerald I used my master ball on a golbat :slightly_smiling_face:

Mew. It’s the most legendary nostalgia.

Back when red / blue first came out, mew was the most legendary thing in the world for us young children lol. All the ways people talked about possibly being able to get one in the game, like under the truck, and seeing him in the final level of Pokémon snap. To top it off seeing him in the beginning of the first movie in the bubble under water was completely epic. And how mewtwo was cloned from it. Yeah

Mew is ultimate legend.

Closely followed by mewtwo.
Can’t explain the feels of FINALLY being able to beat the first Pokémon game (at age 7 with no internet help or previous Pokémon or any game experience in general)
And finally being able to get in the secret cerulean cave, fighting the most badass Pokémon all the way through and finding the sick level 70 mewtwo.

Epic nostalgia for me.
My #1’s forever

Milotic because it’s the most beautiful

Also the side myths/lore about things Pokemon can do are really neat. (Ho-Oh blessing those who see it with eternal happiness, Milotic calming negative emotions, and so on)

That’s a good question actually. As a kid I played thousand of hours to Pokemon Gold with my brother with his Gameboy Color, and that shining Gyarados was mindblowing to me. Later on I bought a GBA with a Pokemon Yellow with it, so I was finally able to pick up my team by myself. I took out my Pokemon gen 1 album that I think I completed, and started picking the most baddass team I could find. Ofc Gyarados was a member, along Rhydon, Golem, Dragonite, Machamp and Nidoking. Later in life, like 4 years ago, I found a local group that hanged out to trade and play Pokemon oldschool format, Base to Neo, and I inmediately got hooked to Pokemon again (also Pokemon Go and evolutions came out so I started buying vintage Pokemon cards at that time). Each member had a favourite Pokemon, so I decided I should also have one, and it was like an almost instant thought that popped in my mind, Gyarados. I love sea creatures (I had a Tylosaur fossil tattooed on my right leg), I love dragons, sea serpents, and most of all, fking BADASS Pókemons because I really hate all the recent “friendship” “cute” “pokemon café” kind of things and what more badass than a beautiful orange karp that transforms into a goddamit fking huge and vicious DRAGON if they fight for it and achieve it. I chose Gyarados and never turned back, I love it (also a water type that spits ice, fire, thunders, hyper beams cmoooooon so fking cool !!!

I LOVE jungle Venonat’s art

I hate gen 3 evolution lines, they ruined most of the best gen 1 Pokemons like Magmar and Rhydon. Later on they ruined Golem with the alola versions

Because I “blasted” my way to victory with just one pokemon in Pokemon Blue

Hello? Friends? Hello?

Charmeleon. Because nothing reminds me of the amazing childhood golden Pokémon days more than when I look at a base set charmeleon. Also, charmeleon has just always been a bad ass.

I have such a large list of favourites but in the sister thread I chose corsola.

All of my favorite pokemon originate from the video games rather than the cards (the only cards I have memory of are the movie entei and R&S Electabuzz ex).

My first pokemon game was pokemon crystal. I don’t know how much I played as a kid but I definitely played it more than any game or any toy I had.
There is no reason why I like corsola but I can remember randomly fishing and catching it. I had never seen that pokemon before so apparently I decided it was the best pokemon.
It was the first pokemon I leveled up to lv100. This was a time where all of my friends thought I was hacking because “pokemon can’t lv up past lv99” lol.

Considering the way I played as a kid I must have grinded like crazy just for fun. Nowadays I’d get bored quite quickly leveling up pokemon to lv 50 let alone 100.

Unfortunately I reset my original save file when I was still really young. I think the file that is active right now might have been the third save I had of crystal.

Anyway… tldr; I played too much when I was a kid and randomly picked corsola to lv up to 100. Therefore, I have decided it’s my fave (although I probably have 5 faves from playing emerald this was the original).

This. Well said.

I really like Tyranitar. I was really young when I got Crystal along with a Gameboy Advance so I didn’t really understand, nor have the resources at the time, to figure out how to find a Larvitar. It was always a pokemon that I wanted but never got until a few years back when I re-played Crystal on the 3DS and figured out how to find him. His Crystal sprite is just amazing.

The moment that I knew he was my new favorite was whenever Pokemon 4ever came out on VHS and I saw him in all of his ferocious and evil beauty. I watched that movie dozens of times as a kid to see all the gen2 pokemon. I really appreciated that Pokemon Sword and Shield gave me the chance to have a Larvitar from the start with the double pack. That allowed me and a friend to split the cost and I got to start with my favorite.

Scyther just happens to be one of the pokemon that I have the earliest memories of. The first pokemon game I played was Snap at a cousin’s house and I remember being obsessed with seeing Scyther fly out of the tall grass close to the beach. Tyranitar is my all time.

My favorite is Scyther because I had a no symbol I pulled when I was a kid and always thought it was a part of the base set. It was always one of my favorite cards. Didn’t know it was an error until way later. Good memories.

Slowbro because of his everything. The original card was magical to me, very much represented my idea of what he is–and I find his fascinating because he is cerebral, but ironic. He seems dull and stupid. Everyone thinks he is in the anime, and in the real world. But that is part of his deception… and allure. He is actually so wise and profound that he is living his life constantly seeing into the beyond, and therein lies his psychic power. He has achieved nirvana. That, and he’s like a water bear thing, and bears are just simply awesome creatures.

And Mr. Mime because, hey, I love clowns. What can I say? Dark Clown Mime creature? Sign me up.

Gyarados - loved dragons growing up, it was the Pokemon I opened the most packs from, it had a big impact on my childhood, and I love its symbolism of overcoming struggles.
