The pull Ratio for Ex’s is not the same, you could pull up to 7 Ex’s during the first couple Sets (Ruby; Sandstorm; Dragon…) hence the higher Pop report of these sets.
Some sets have a silly lower pull rate for Ex Cards (Ex Emerald and Magma vs Aqua for example) - If you check on Youtube there’s a video of an Emerald unboxing where the guy pulls only 3 Ex’s out of the Box. I’ve seen an opening of an Ex Team Magma vs Aqua Live on Facebook and only 3 Ex’s were pulled: If we go to pop reports, most of the cards from this sets are Sub20 in population for PSA10 and really expensive.
Fire red leaf green in the other hand, had, once again, bumped pull rates, hence, once again, the pop report for this one, most of the Ex’s for this set are over 100 and not valuable at all: They usually go for 100/125 a piece for gem copies, but the Trio (Venusaur 150 blastoise 225 Charizard around a thousand nowadays; even with a silly high pop!)
On a side note, be careful buying ‘‘Mint - NM’’ Ex’s; im always lurking eBay looking for cards that are gradeable, most of the NM-M cards listed are actually Moderately played or worst.
@pokemonargentina Thanks so much for the info. Ya I’m not someone who enjoys submitting to PSa I’ve never done it before. But my main outlook is if I want a PSA 9 or 10 etc than I just buy it already graded instead of hoping for a mint grade. So far I only have 3 PSa cards but I’ll get more here and there as I go but mostly only on my favorite cards. I thought about getting the big 3 in PSa 7 or so for Fire Red Leaf Green. But I will see what I decide. I mostly just do binder sets
I have been searching eBay for NM EX’s for a while now. I’ve had some luck, but yeah. For the most part, they are INCREDIBLY difficult to find in that condition. I think it’s a combination of relatively low demand (compared to WOTC) and the fact that the print runs for these sets just weren’t that high.
Amazing deal congratulations!! Ya I’ve bought abunch in the $2-$25 range. Hardly any breach $50 but just wait these penny stocks will rise so much haha
Me too at the end of the day I collect what I enjoy. But I also really enjoy flipping thru all the different generations of cards. It’s amazing how many years Pokemon cards have been out :-). Also whoever makes prices needs to go back to school for math big time. Prices on all cards should reflect pull rates and the price of sealed packs. Example why is a sealed pack $250 or so but the best pull is worth $100 or less. Than you figure holo’s are 1 in 3 packs so any holo should be worth about two times pack price at least. As a buyer I don’t mind but it really makes zero sense for these sellers who originally came up with said prices. It’s like people put cards into a penny auction and are like ok the first penny auction went for $5 so that’s what this card is worth… tisk tisk haha
There is no packs worth opening at all. You always lose money. It’s basically pull a 1st edition base zard or bust. Typhlosion #17 in PSa 9 or better or bust. Even if you want pack fresh cards just buy it mint or buy it graded. Or buy it in light played. Also I found it Hilarious how many packs Leonhart opened to get a $50-$75 Rainbow Reshiram Charizard. He opened maybe $5000-$7000 plus in packs lmao
Cheap (raw) ex cards have many hidden flaws which are not so apparent to the buyer, “looks minty” when you receive it via mail. But until you sent it for grading and got a 7 (or below) in return, you’ll see why you got it so cheap.
Note the holo silvery border is vulnerable to damage and subjected to nit-picking by grader too. That’s why ex cards in high grades are so expensive. Especially PSA 10s.
In other words, for cheap cards, you get what you paid for. If any seller has raw ex card in REAL pristine condition, he would already sent it himself to PSA for grading. No way he would sell it cheap on ebay or TnT.
