Way back when we used to have a Dewgong collector named @frost who would get cheated out of a new Dewgong release year after year.

Supposedly Haxorus was designed during Diamond/Pearl. I wonder if they kept it in gen 4, if it would be more popular today. Either way, best ‘mon in gen 5 and I’m guted it didn’t get a SAR in the recent set!

Likely Hydreigon over shadows it a ton but its just as iconic as it imo. And Unova just has a ton of cool dragon designs as a whole.

I was thinking about this last week how there is some very popular Pokemon like Greninja that dont get a lot of love in the TCG community. While Meowth was a main staple to the show he was never really a fan favorite. But back to Greninja and other popular mons, usually the reason they’re not big in the TCG community is because they just dont have many good cards. Greninja should have a really cool looking card by now and it just doesn’t, in my opinion most of his cards are mid.

I’d say Maril deserves more love. I remember when I first seen it as a child Andi went totally crazy. It felt like a Gen 2 equivalent of Pikachu and was even called Pikablue.
Maril receives some cool cards but I think it doesn’t recieving enough attention and recognition. I somehow don’t like Azumarill but it’s the same for me as Raichu which I’m not a fan of either.
Would be cool to have a Mega Maril or Maril EX.
Another Pokémon that comes to mind would be Togepi.
Maybe I’m biased because Gen 2 is my favourite

I think different “types” of Pokemon fans have different general preferences. Card collectors tend to skew Charizard and Gengar more than the average fan. People who play the video game probably skew more Lucario/Greninja which might be why you don’t see it as represented in collectors as much as expected. There’s also a male bias in card collecting versus compared to the average Pokemon fan which I’m sure has an effect.
