which is the better investment long term

Well there is no “right” answer in speculating, but some people have been investing in cards a lot longer than others and noticed more trends in set cards vs fan club cards or other limited release promos. I don’t know the answer to the question but even though there is a healthy market of serious collectors buying up niche cards with limited releases, I still think a limited print run (1st ed shadowless) on the original Charizard is the safer move. It’s a lot easier to liquidate a card that EVERYONE recognizes because there is a bigger market for it. Niche cards require more patience. That said, a lot of niche cards are worth a hell of a lot more than set cards, but I think 1st edition shadowless base Charizard is one of the exceptions. Seems like some of the people with skin in the game for awhile now are putting their chips on it based on the responses.

Quite true and the safe bet would go to the Charizard. Who knows, greater risk maybe a greater reward

If you want to invest in Pokémon go ahead and invest in Pokémon. I honestly don’t care if someone want to collect, invest, or both. It helps the hobby either way. Just know any good investment takes five years. I’d choose the charizard.

Zard for sure

I’d go for the Scroll. More exclusivity and less people own it. Charizard is the mascot for sure but there is a lot available.

Keeping an eye toward possible future value is reasonable but shouldn’t be the only determinate.

That said, I’d go with the Charizard. I have all the Japanese early sets and mucho promos and really treasure them but, they figure to heavily decline in value in the future which is ok. I haven’t saved and collected them all these years to make money. I simply love them.
