Where do setless (c) 2006 EX-era Basic Energy come from?

Do any of y’all know where the set-less copyright 2006 EX-era Basic Energy come from?

  1. Basic Energy in EX-era decks from as late as Power Keepers still have copyright 2005.
  2. I run a league that got a bunch of Basic Energy back in the day–also copyright 2005.
  3. Most likely not non-English Energy, since Italian, German etc. EX cards have a pale yellow, almost cream border, whereas these have the more saturated yellow border of English cards.
  4. One guess is that they could come from the Epic Collection decks ( bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/…/EX_TCG_Series… ), but no videos/pics I’ve found are high-enough resolution to confirm.
  5. Another possibility is that they are from later print runs that went out to leagues or went out in theme decks… or maybe there are regional factors at play, like some Europe-only print run.

Theme decks from 2006 (i.e., Holon Phantoms FloodRush theme deck)

Thanks! My Pokemon Cards Collection - YouTube is a FloodRush deck opening… kinda hard to see but it does look like it’s 2006 Energy. However, it’s interesting because you’d think all late 2006 and 2007 theme decks would have 06 Energy, but looks like that’s not the case:

So maybe only certain print runs/countries got '06, or maybe it was used only/primarily for the HP theme decks and later decks went back to '05? Anyways, that could explain why I’ve been having a harder time finding Grass Energy and Lightning Energy with (c) 2006, since those types aren’t in the HP theme decks. (Actually I have never even seen a picture of an '06 Lightning).

I’ve just looked in my collection, and apparently I have all of them, including the Lightning Energy:

Looking at that first video you’ve linked, we can see:

A ©2005 Energy in the EX Deoxys Jetstream deck (15:35):

A ©2006 Energy in the EX Legend Maker Shadowquake deck (36:33):

A ©2006 Energy in the EX Holon Phantoms FloodRush deck (23:17):

Using this information, we can assume both EX Deoxys decks contain ©2005 Energy cards, so let’s ignore those for a moment. The two EX Legend Maker decks are Groundbreaker (Fighting and Grass Energy cards) and Shadowquake (Water and Psychic Energy cards). And the two EX Holon Phantoms decks are FireMist (Fire and Fighting Energy cards) and FloodRush (Psychic and Water Energy cards).

That only leaves the ©2006 Lightning Energy cards unexplained.

  • Theme decks from the EX Ruby & Sapphire; EX Sandstorm; EX Dragon; and EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua sets all aren’t possible, since those contain Energy cards with the E-reader symbol at the bottom-left (not sure about to copyright date, but probably ©2003).
  • Theme decks from the EX Hidden Legends; EX FireRed & LeafGreen; and EX Team Rocket Returns sets aren’t possible either, since those contain Energy cards with the EX Ruby & Sapphire set symbol at the bottom-right (not sure about to copyright date, but probably ©2004).
  • For EX Deoxys Theme decks we already know they’ll contain ©2005 Energy cards based on the screenshot above.
  • For EX Emerald Theme decks we already know they’ll contain ©2005 Energy cards based on this video (timestamp 12:21).
  • EX Unseen Forces Theme decks also contain ©2005 Energy cards, based on this video (she mentions the date at 11:10, even though it isn’t in focus enough to see it ourselves).
  • For EX Delta Species Theme decks I’ve yet to find a video that’s in focus enough to see the copyright date, but they are the correct type of Energy cards based on this video (timestamp 4:25).
  • For EX Legend Maker and EX Holon Phantoms Theme decks we already know they’ll contain ©2006 Energy cards based on the screenshots above.
  • For EX Crystal Guardians and EX Dragon Frontiers Theme decks we already know they’ll contain ©2005 Energy cards based on the two other videos you’ve linked.
  • And EX Power Keepers theme decks contain ©2005 Energy cards as well, based on this video (timestamp 4:58).

Unfortunately I can’t find any EX Delta Species theme deck opening. It also doesn’t help that the theme deck which contains Lightning Energies is named ‘Breakthrough’ (like the XY era set), which makes searching for it harder. I’m pretty sure the EX Delta Species Theme decks should contain ©2006 Energy cards, though. Given that I have a Lightning Energy, and it’s the only theme deck opening I haven’t been able to deduct the Energy copyright date of yet, and it’s also right before the EX Legend Maker and EX Holon Phantoms sets which do contain ©2006 Energy cards.

@quuador , the other possibility is (as the OP mentioned) that the Epic Collection Typhlosion ex deck contains them. If it does, then the Delta Species theme decks wouldn’t necessarily be the source (although they might also be, of course).

Ah, I read past that. Yes, that’s indeed another possibility in that case. Unfortunately I also can’t find any decent videos for those. For the EX Delta Species I could only find one theme deck opening where the copyright date isn’t in focus. And although I was able to find four different videos for these Epic Collections, they’re videos from 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012, so unfortunately also all too low quality to see the copyright dates… :confused:
