Whether it’d be for a chase card or to collect a master set, etc etc etc. I know there are many collectors who prefer to have sealed boxes, but there are also many more who probably went to tens of boxes just for that gold star back in the heyday. What’s the most you’ve opened/spent and did you regret it after? Knowing it would’ve been cheaper to buy the singles…
As sets have gotten bigger with more secret rares, rainbow rares, etc. it’s become pretty much impossible to finish a set even with a case…
Opened about 14 boxes of Assault Of The Saiyans at my local card shop, kept slapping my hand on the table for them to give me another box like I wanted another dam shot of tequila until I found my signature cards. Good time though. Recently opened about 9 Toon Chais booster boxes on live looking for collector rares. I pulled 2
It would have to be unbroken bonds/unified minds for me. I think I opened close to 15 to 18 boxes of each at around $80 a box. I definitely regret it because I bought those boxes at Gen Con instead of buying graded slabs at the convention. Needless to say, that decision hasnt aged well, I thought PSA 9 1st Edition holo Jungle/Fossil/Rocket would stay around $40 forever lol.
Most I ever opened of 1 set was a case of forbidden light that I won at a tournament a few years ago. I almost never buy sealed product to open but this was essentially free so I thought why not?
Not sure. I don’t open a lot of boxes in general tbh. I think the max is two: I’ve opened two Japanese CP6 boxes; two Korean Fairy Rise boxes; two Korean Tag Bolt boxes; two English Cosmic Eclipse Build & Battle prerelease boxes; and I have two English Yu-Gi-Oh COTD boxes incoming.
I do still have two Korean Fairy Rise boxes sealed which I originally planned to open as well (for a total of four), but I was able to find the singles I wanted (when I was still collecting Mimikyu cards) before the boxes arrived, so I haven’t actually opened them.
Hmm, I actually also opened six Thai First Impact Randomized Starter Decks (bought ten as a package deal, and still have four sealed left). Technically not a booster box, but since it’s 140 cards randomized, it can still be somewhat considered a set I guess?
I opened a bunch of ancient origins and roaring skies just before the price spiked on ancient origins. Some regrets haha but it’s alright I had fun. What I did notice was that whatever the last reprint of roaring skies was had absolutely atrocious print quality. There’s this weird silvering all over the front of the cards, like they ran out of ink or something.
I did not open a lot of hidden fates because I quickly realized it was going to be a set I had awful luck with Just bought singles to fill in what I needed
