You understand the buyer being an inconsiderate, selfish douche?
I get wanting to make sure the package doesn’t get stolen. What I don’t get is completely ignoring what’s also best for the seller. It’s a perfect example of the disgusting entitlement mentality that has permeated this country today.
On the topic of companies leaving stuff random places:
I had 3 FedEx packages shipped together. Total insurance: $327,000.
FedEx delivered it to the wrong building, let someone with the wrong name sign for it, and marked as “left at reception desk” when there was no reception desk.
I went to the local FedEx branch and explained and they were not even willing to take down my information or let me finish explaining.
They only resolved it after the sender filed a claim on the insurance. It was then resolved within 8 hours.
I’ve also had delivery companies in at least 4 European countries deliver to the wrong address and let the wrong name sign for the package. Thus has happened with UPS, FedEx, and USPS.
FYI if you think USPS will hold your item for exactly the time period you requested via online or phone request, you are going to have a bad time. With USPS you should just expect the worst case scenario. I once put holds twice when I was away for a few weeks. The first hold they delivered it with no delay. The second they returned to sender lol.
This says a 10% reduction on final value
e fees. With an ebay store subscription, you can already get those under 10%. So we are talking less than 1% of the sale price is up for grabs with the program.
And in exchange, you deal with all this? I’m just seeing a really poor value proposition on eBay’s part. I cannot think of any area of my business or life that I would jump through so many hoops and accept such poor treatment for less than 1% difference in cost. Ya know?
I just bought from someone on eBay in person. He was so pissed about the eBay selling experience, he just wanted to sell in person for cash. It worked out since we lived near each other.
Unfortunately, In Scott’s position there is nothing he can do. I have held items before, but I don’t think I have the top rated seller status.
If you ship and a return is requested, would eBay not side with Scott based on the messages the buyer sent? That seems cut and dry.
If this was me I would cancel the order pay whatever fee you had to pay and block the buyer. He seems pretty demanding. (Granted this doesn’t affect your seller status and he can’t leave negative feedback.)
It truly is terrible. I’m always conflicted because I want to do the absolute best, but it’s so overreaching. I’ve been in the Top Rated Seller program since the beginning and each year it gets more tedious.
It sucks that they are even putting you in this situation but into get around ebay couldn’t you just mark as ship with no tracking and than just send it out in a week. Ebay wont bother you about tracking I dont think. But if you rather not do it like that than I guess refund or send and they can deal with it XD
In cases like this where a customer is dissatisfied, first I review ONLY what I said (in your case 3 comments). Then I review ONLY what they said (4 comments).
Based on that I try to figure out what I could have done better to avoid the conflict.
In your case I would have found I was a little too businesslike then defensive. He was very pleasant then defensive,
In those cases I would ask myself how I could have phrased things differently and still accomplished what I wanted to.
Asking the question here as a thread is great. It shows you are open to critique and ideas. I like that:)
It seems rude to me that the buyer made a request after making a purchase instead of the other way around. Worst case scenario if I knew that I wasn’t going to be able to receive a package I would ask a friend or neighbor to hold onto it for me until I got home. I think you did the right thing in this situation
