What was your Rival's name in the Pokemon Games?

Was talking to a few friends the other day and we got to talking about how stupid some of our names or our Pokemon names were. The best though were when we talked about our Rival’s names and why we named them.

My best friend at the time, Doug, named his rival “Butt” when he got the game. Pure and simple. He was one of the few friends that started collecting with me and got into the game. He got the game before I did and bragged how he would beat me when I got mine. He already had a Charizard since i told him I was going to get Venusaur (I loved Bulbasaur from the show).

So you know what I named my rival?

“ButtDoug”

Ah, to be 12 again.

So! What did you guys name your rivals and why?

In pokemon GSC, my rivals name was always :thinking: because that’s what he introduced himself as when you first meet him and I was dumb and thought that was actually his name. As for pokemon RBY, I only knew 1 curse word at that point in my life, so I named him “Fuk”.

My first game ever I mashed the keyboard and got MWXY. That was always going to be it.

I don’t remember the first rival name I ever gave out, but the one that sticks out the most is from the pokemon gold cartridge I bought second hand. The guy named himself alex and the rival “Poop”

In Red/Blue, I always chose Gary lol just didn’t feel right if I didnt!

In Silver/Gold, When the police officer asks you what “?? ?” name is, as a kid I thought his name was ?? ? so I named him that lolol

Mine was typically “AAAAAAA” because I hated getting through the intro of the game after replaying it for the 4th time because I was addicted lol

I always chose the opposite game name haha. In Blue Version my rival was Red, in Gold my rival was Silver, etc.

I still play the old games even today. I just think the replay value is fantastic and each time try different teams. How I named the rival has totally evolved over the years. Initially it was Gary when I was in elementary school, then it moved to being my closest friend at the time, then to someone that was kind of an ass in real life, then for a while I liked Blue, then recently I named him my best buddy George, then for the recent run I named him “Thorge”, which was a combination of George and my other best buddy Thor. George will be the best man at my wedding next year too, haha. Kicked his ass after beating Lance :wink:

I used to just name him Gary, but after a while I started naming him “Asshole”. I’ve replayed the games several times over the last 2 years and both gen 1 and 2 rivals are always named Asshole.

I’d switch the names between red and blue depending on which version I played. If I was playing blue version Id call myself blue and my rival red. Made sense to me sense I was playing blue version.
