Dunno. I’ve also never had any gaming console, like a PlayStation, XBox, GameCube, GameBoy, etc. as a kid. 
For me, gaming was on my PC; and Pokémon was only collecting the TCG cards and watching the cartoon/anime.
The only Pokémon game I’ve ever played was this one, but I don’t think those have shinies.
