Man, radical stuff everybody! It’s awesome to hear all these stories and see the diversity in the cards we started with. Charizard seems to be taking the cake here!
My first ever submission was the free 15 card sub that I got with the platinum membership. These were also the first 15 PSA cards I ever owned. Fun fact: I’ve only ever opened one 1st edition gym challenge pack and that was a pack I bought from Rusty years ago. I luckily pulled a Blaine’s Charizard which you can see graded a 10 below. I now own the entire holo set in PSA 10.

PSA 9 1st edition base charizard. I wasn’t really planning on collecting PSA cards beyond that (this was after I completed my 1st edition base through rocket binder collection), but it kind of snowballed from there, and now I’m just a few commons and uncommons from completing a PSA 9/10 mix 1st edition base set.
A PSA 8.5 Shining Charizard off of an eBay seller; they got I think £40/50 and a MP/EX GS Metagross as well as a small profit from grading fees for 10 or so cards I wanted to get protected having just found these wonderful PSA cases that were somehow better than toploaders XD. Things kinda spiralled from there - both my love of shining zards and the PSA pile!
So I have been collecting the cards since 1998, on and off, with no real goals or anything, just enjoying opening boosters and organizing them. After finding E4 over last summer I realized some of the depths of the hobby, and had been wanting this card for a while. Bid on many but the price always climbed a bit too high for me, and then I won this PSA graded version for less than any I’d seen. I love it and I love that it’s one of my only graded cards (so far ).
It’s popular because of its quality sugimori artwork and unique layout including the pocket monsters logo and double star rarity. The pocket monsters logo and double star are otherwise only present on the original trophy cards.
My first PSA cards (plural instead of singular, since all three were bought from the same seller at once) were the PSA-9 Base Set Pikachus for Chinese 1st edition; Korean 1st edition; and Korean unlimited edition.
I preferred a binder collection at the time, but since I couldn’t find these three Pikachus anywhere I decided to spend a bit more money and buy the PSA-9 graded that had been on eBay for quite a while instead. Now I just buy PSA-graded cards if I can’t find the card unsealed (I currently have 18 PSA-graded (+2 additional duplicates), 4 Beckett-graded, and 1 MAP-graded card in my possession.)
@ozenigma haha do you remember what I submitted first with you ? I honestly can’t recall…
But I know my first major return was some crystal English Charizards. 2 psa 10s.
I think that was maybe my first sub with ozenigma when I was in australia.
