Everyone has that one card that means more than the rest, no matter the price or grade. I’m curious — what’s yours, and what’s the story behind it?
For me, it’s my 1st Edition Base Set Holo Blastoise. It was the first holo I ever pulled back in 1999, and later became the first Blastoise I ever graded. For a while it was actually the only PSA 10 in existence — literally a 1/1.
A collector named ebird graded the second PSA 10 years later, and I ended up buying that copy from him on eBay for around $100 (it was $200 obo lol) in 2006
There are over 200 qotd’s. There will be plenty of duplicates. There are even a couple in qotd itself.
As far as the question, mewtwo shining legends. I pulled it from a clearance pack that i bought on a whim after not buying cards for 10-15 years. It got me back into pokemon cards and its been a fun rollercoaster since then.
Fossil Lapras was the first holo I pulled. The family didn’t have the cash to buy cards often, and I remember getting my first three packs on Christmas morning from my stocking. Pulled a holo Lapras, and the memory is still up there in all-time greatest moments.
My mom bought me a PSA 10 1st Edition Shining Raichu for Christmas like five or six years ago. I said right when it happened that that was one card I would never, ever get rid of. I kept it in a graded card box with a bunch of other cards, but always kept it toward the back because I knew I would never sell it.
In November 2023, my mom passed away. I took the Shining Raichu card and put it in a safe. I don’t care how valuable that card becomes. It will be with me forever.
For me it has to be the Lucario Lv. x tin promo. I sadly don’t have my original copy but I remember waking up Christmas morning opening that Lucario tin and having a blast, I really reminiscence the past and wish everyday I could go back to being a kid and enjoying pokemon. Maybe it’s nostalgia? But it is definitely sentimental and everytime I see one for sale in person I try to buy it regardless of condition.

I pulled it when I was like 10 out of a booster pack from a local card shop
I begged my mom to take me to buy pokemon cards.. we were getting ready to go out of town and she was trying so hard to get us all ready to go the day prior but i kept just begging her and out of frustration she took me… we get to the store and they didn’t have any english so I bought the Japanese having no idea what it is but its pokemon in the 90’s… I opened immediately and was so excited at what I pulled… my mom was livid and just frustrated about everything she still had to do but she took the time to get me one simple booster pack… needless to say she drove home frustrated and I guess was driving a little crazy and ended up getting pulled over and getting a ticket…. I remember feeling very guilty as a little kid.. like dang maybe I should have just let mom alone.. but she still got it for me anyways.. It’s not a huge deal and I didn’t deserve for her to get me the card and honestly I was being spoiled in the moment.. but the fact is she did and I will always remember that trip and that story and I will never sell my lugia
probably snap poliwag, despite not owning one, as it was one of the most discussed cards when I properly engrossed myself with the hobby. I feel like it encapsulates why I started collecting and what captured my interest.
with that said, probably base venusaur otherwise as it’s my favourite pokemon
