What is your biggest regret as a collector? A card you passed on? A card you sold to early?

Not mass grading easy 10’s through $7 bulk tiers in the early/mid 2010’s.

Not getting back into collecting sooner when Vintage prices were attainable.

I see most of my collection being Modern at this point with some very cherished vintage sub-collections. Just due to the price.

I regret not getting to know other collectors as an adult. My fondest card-related memories as a kid are about sharing them with other people…

I also regret buying too many pokemon cards. While I feel very fortunate that they have gone up in value, I think I would have had more happy years as an adult collector if I had spread my collecting impulses (and funds) among other interests. (Instead of expanding more and more sub-goals for my pokemon collection.)

Definitely letting go of a few cards too early. I bought a lot of collections 2017-2021 and the process I had going was to sort, grade, sell and use the funds to buy things I wanted. I did finish more of my goals faster, like compete 1st edition base, fossil, and jungle sets. However, there are cards I should have just held onto had I thought more deeply about their value rather than just a means to an end for my goals.

Example: PSA 10 Ooyama’s Pikachu, several mid-grade ghost stamp pikas, some duplicate first edition base PSA 9 and 10 cards, duplicate Munch cards etc.

For a while I was obsessed with shoes. That collection’s solid and I’m happy with my Pokémon stuff, but if I’d put that same money into vintage Pokémon back then, I’d probably have a fleet of mansions now.

Selling a few of my childhood cards in 2021 and also not sending in a bunch of cards to be graded back in 2025.

Not buying more Pokémon Center Pikachu promo cards when they were cheaper.

When these were really cheap, I graded a lot of them in mostly 10s and sold most of them way too soon.

I actually can’t finish typing it out as it makes me too mad

my fucking binder whitened all of my cards edges on the back.

Not buying poncho pikas because “everyone thought the prices will come down.”

which binder was that?

Have you tried the milk + blue dye method? It works 100% of the time I can attest!

Did you store your binder in the shower ? Otherwise I’m struggling to see how having a card sleeved up in a binder would cause them all to get “whitened”

Rule #1 of collecting, don’t listen to the poo-poos of the hobby and collect what you like.
The average collector in this space doesn’t know what they like and don’t like until the market tells them. Don’t be like them. Be different, be ShinPorygon.

Obviously not buying more, but the older i get i start to realize if i really liked the cards i would have bought them earlier.

Also at the start of covid, i let the fear dictated me, i quitted my job to stay home, could have earn some more money to get more cards during early covid boom.
