Tell you what i was at the KC Collectacon and that card was still the craze. There was one guy there who had two of them. The only copies in the building for sale. Was a really cool dude so I talked to him about 20min… in that 20min about 10 people came over looking for it after he had sold them. Had two other interactions where people were just asking if the vendor had any umbreons in general. Notably the most sought after cards for the show still. Also the modern/ alt arts are the current kings.
this is amazing.
Recently it was exposed in social media of the thefts of hits from Evolving Skies and Fusion Strike. Hits like Moonbreon, Rayquaza, Espeon vmax alt cards were stolen by factory employees. Now as these cards were retrieved by the company and destroyed, the supply of these hits circulating the market is actually lesser than official figures. With lessened supply, price will only go one direction - up!
Supply wasn’t really affected if assuming 2 things:
- the stolen cards were replaced at the factory, so no packs were affected.
- the stolen cards were immediately confiscated, which means there never was a surplus of supply
There are 7,786 english Moonbreon graded at PSA. Over 6000 are PSA 1O. 1,399 graded at BGS. 1,734 at CGC.
That’s over 10k. Nevermind the raw copies in binders or store shelves or “to grade” piles or still in sealed products.
Supply will always be the enemy of massed produced set cards. The number of Moonbreon that made it out of the factory was a drop in the ocean
Replaced with non-hits, as witnessed by people who degened.
For Japanese version of Moonbreon, total of 3,100+ graded. Over 2,800 of those graded are PSA 10. Still baffles me till today why Moonbreon (both Japanese and English ver) is continually rising in price.
Any evidence that they were replaced with non hits? It appears they were stolen before they even hit the feeder.
Something that happened 1.5 years ago that suddenly came to light doesn’t change the number of copies that are out there yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Heard a rumour in the community that many fans regarded alt arts as gold stars of modern era.
Hi passerbytwo, may I know which community is this?
I think you mistook me for your fruend… But anyway, I saw it while looking up discussions on Moonbreon, to have better understanding of this card’s unprecedented performance. Visit URL: Reddit - Dive into anything
It is not really a rumor if a part of the people see alt arts as gold stars, more an opinion that you can agree with or not. Both are rare to pull from a pack and many people want one. On the other hand, there are already thousands of graded 10 Moons and gold stars were printed in a low area of the hobby. So some fans might think the comparison makes sense, some don’t :).
If there are 100,000 Moonbreons and 1,000,000 people want them, then there aren’t enough Moonbreons hence price goes up.
If there are 10,000 Neo Genesis Skarmory and 1,000 people want them, then there are too many, hence price goes down.
No idea why people keep ignoring this and referring to pop reports like gospel.
There are as many Moonbreons as there are rainbow rare Trevenant VMAX but you couldn’t give away the latter hence it’s worth 100x less. Even the NORMAL art Umbreon VMAX which should have tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands more copies is worth more than it.
How does this still surprise people?
Simple lesson on Supply VS Demand 101, illustrated beautifully by you. Well said!
Is a reddit poll from a year ago really evidence of unprecendented performance?
ah reddit
This line of argumentation also worked really well for graded unlimited Base Charmanders when they were a couple hundred bucks each, only 2-3 years ago.
But whatever. Keep stonkin’, Moonbreon bros.
Once the shiny Umbreon ex teramajigger releases in 2024, Moonbreon will be a quarter moon instead of full moon.
except unlimited Base Charmander wasn’t the best card in its set, it’s a common
This is, obviously, true. But, I think it’s basically impossible to accurately predict how peoples opinions will sway in the future. Rainbow rares were epic, until they weren’t. In the same way that low pop cards only need a slight increase in demand to increase drastically in price, high pop cards only need a slight decrease in demand for a huge surplus to be available. If 5% of moonbreon holders decide they hate moonbreon and sell out at the same time, price will be fucked.
To be clear, I own a moonbreon and think its a great card. I just wouldn’t be shocked if its price gets slashed in half randomly over the next few years. Also wouldnt be shocked if it doubles again, or does nothing. Who knows
