What Grade Would This Get? Potential Purchase

Hey everyone!

I recently was scouting Craigslist, and I came across a deal that seems almost too good. I found a 1st edition Charizard for a price that is in my opinion pretty good. Before I pursue purchasing though, I wanted to appeal to this community of more seasoned collectors. I was wondering if 1.) this is a fake that I have failed to detect and 2.) what you think the grade of this would be. The seller only has one image of the card up, and I know without getting a look at the back it will be hard to say for certain.

Thank you all in advance! I hope you all have had a great Thanksgiving and look forward to hearing your responses!

That’s a lot of holo scratches… Might mean the back has significant wear. I’d say it’s certainly not higher than a 6

Ya the seller is advertising as near mint, which is clearly not the case. I was figuring depending on the back a 4 or 5, but I don’t have near the grading experience that many of you all have which is why I am asking.

Looks legit from the pics, but imo only way that sucker is getting a 6 is if back is flawless. If back is as rough as front id expect 5, if creased could go lower.

Be careful

If the seller isn’t going to show the back of the card, I would automatically assume the worst and pay accordingly. The front is in pretty rough shape.

But on the plus side, it looks real to me and it even has a nice thick stamp.

It may be worth mentioning that the asking price is 500 USD which is why I am considering the purchase. I know the condition is rough, real rough. I’m just trying to decide if this may be worth it for my personal collection as well as make sure that it is indeed legit.

That is a steal. I bought one in similar condition (ended up grading a PSA 6) in early 2017 for I think it was $580. So $500 for any charizard over a year later is absolutely a good price. You can’t get any graded 1st edition base charizard on ebay for under $1000 at the moment.

Thank you all! On the back of this, I have messaged the seller to see if I can get pics of the back, and to try to move forward with the sale!

Just ask the seller for a picture of the back. If it’s flawless, it might be a PSA 6. If he doesn’t deliver, it’s a no-no.

Agreed, for a $500 dollar deal on Craigslist, a 2nd picture is not too much to ask for.

Thanks I hope so too! The seller replied saying that when they get off work today, they will send pics of front and back of card which I will upload here. Hoping for a clean back!

Good luck! If everything works out would this be your first 1st edition zard?

Yes it would be! It would be my first 1st edition holo actually!

Awesome! My wallet is dreading starting 1st edition base set. At least you’d have the most expensive one already checked off

Well I would like to thank everybody here for their input, but the seller messaged me this morning that they have sold the 1st edition Charizard. Clearly this one just wasn’t for me. I wish I had better news, but I wanted to thank you all either way!

Ahh sorry about that. There will be more don’t worry. Sometimes if I see a good deal I just buy first before someone else does.
