For some, it’s been a tough year of goals moving further away. What goals have you given up on in 2025/2026?
I have definitely lost the ability for the near future to buy some sub 100 copy cards.
Things have risen too much and I wasn’t getting paid well enough when they were lower to buy them unfortunately. Hopefully I can get a more lower grade copy eventually but it may be a year or two until they show up.
I also thought I wanted to make a teddiursa collection but the more I looked at the cards I felt less compelled even though I love the pokemon. it feels like the cards don’t capture the love I have for it from the games

Realistically, the only goal I had left to give up was a sealed Pokemon Stadium 2 PAL. It’s never been a high priority goal but it’s been there for 17 years. I don’t think it would ever become a high enough priority, and the price will keep going vertical. Also, the idea was that it would crown a sort of Pokemon shrine thing at some point in the future but with the current plan there will be nothing left to crown. It’ll just be a standalone piece on a shelf somewhere, and that wasn’t the intention.

Well, it wasn’t really a conscious goal, but I never picked up the 151 SARs and now they have made another surge into space so that’s probably never happening for me now. Not sure what’s the cause of this latest spike, though most of them are always social media related.

The masakis in PSA 9. I got the Machamp and Golem in 2019 and thought I would slowly pick up the rest later.
Then 2020 happened so I put the goal on hold. Then 2025 happened, and whatever little hope I had of finishing this set vanished. Full PSA 9 set in 2019 was not even 1k.

Ive not bought myself any Pokemon cards in a little over 3 years now, so no goals for the time being. When prices return to normal I may pick something up (might be a while..lol), but Ive been finding enjoyment in the games, and anime more recently. I did sell some of my old gameboy cartridges for a few hundred because they seen to be releasing most of them digitally, so Ill wait for those as well. Will probably buy a switch 2 with the money, and focus on other aspects of life right now.

Gave up on getting all the Shining cards from Japanese Shining Legends in PSA 10 because I realized I didn’t really care that much about them and it was more of a chore than anything else

Finally 151 is officially out of print—that is the sole reason for the jump
It caused most cards in 151 to rise by 50% or actually double in price
I was wondering why 151 exploded in the past couple of weeks.

I am likely abandoning all non TCG cards. I would get them over the years when they were cheap or part of a lot/collection I bought and just kept them.

I sometimes have the thought of how cool it would be to own a Hoenn regional dex with cards from the EX era, then I remember how expensive that would be and I continue to focus on smaller goals and just collecting certain lines from that era

I had to temper a few collecting goals last year.
I really really wanted to grade all of the Simplified Chinese Snorunt rev holos in a PSA 10. I have a friend in Hong Kong who was buying them up in mass, and once they finally arrived the condition was overall pretty terrible. No card was free from imperfections. I sent the best of what I had with expected results.
Similarly, I initially wanted everything in my PSA Master Set to be a PSA 10 but it finally started to sink in that I might never see any of these in a 10. ESPECIALLY the rev holos. Having a 10 or nothing mindset is difficult to break, but I’ve learned to appreciate my 9s a lot more.

Yep same here. I’ve had to come down to PSA 9s on certain cards. I was letting it frustrate me pretty bad for a while there but I’ve just accepted it at this point. Kind of disappointing because I’m sooooo close to finishing a few PSA 10 master sets, but unless something crazy happens and prices come way down, getting PSA 9s is the only way I’ll able to finish them.

I was really hoping to get a PSA 9 reverse holo Psyduck from Aquapolis but that card has memed and skyrocketed so crazily that I just can’t justify it. Now people want $3k+ for it (if you can find a seller) and well into 5 figures for the PSA 10 copies. I love that card but that price is just nutty.

I had planned to complete a Japanese XY textured full art binder last year but I got so overwhelmed after buying about a dozen.. there are SO many compared to BW and they are often expensive (though not terrible all things considering). So that’s been left on the back burner.
I had also kinda expected at this stage in my collection to have a second Snap card and uncut sheet but their prices rose faster than my income.

I am nowhere near as high end as many people on this forum but I think one goal I will likely drop is attempting to obtain the Art Academy Delphox. I have just never reached a point where I felt comfortable biting the bullet on it while it was in the 4-10k range. But now it is likely worth quite a bit more. Maybe my mind will change later on! But by that point it probably will have gone up more haha.

I haven’t given up on any of my goals but a lot of single cards i’ve wanted to add or had in my goals i’ve just checked how much they are and nope won’t happen, luckily nothing super necessary or something that couldn’t be replaced with another card
