What goals have you given up on in 2025/2026?

The PSA 10 2001 Nippon Airways Pikachu to pair with the Larvitar. Will probably go with a lower grade at some point.

Gift set birds in 10s. Might do the 9s but we will see how it all plays out. Also the complete vending set in 10s are very much becoming a pipe dream. It was a long term goal but its trending towards being unlikely.

Japanese base+fossil+jungle holos in PSA 9. I am most of the way there but am starting to compromise into getting a few 8s and 7s as I get priced out of the 9s.

I’m less motivated to finish my komiya singles binder. I’m ok to shell out $$ on psa10, but paying 500$ on singles really feels like trashing money
The drive to finish my binders is definitely lower in this market. I notice now, that I feel zero amount of fomo when it comes to binder singles.

My houndoom psa 10 master set wishlist went from 25k to 125k in 6 months, so it might be time to selectively settle for 9s :sob:

Sell your 10s, replace them with 9s, and pocket tens of thousands of dollars.

I have not given up or changed my goals but just tempering my expectations that they may or may not be achieved. I will still stick it my budgets and take it slow. If it happens, it happens.

Cheers!

Many. many which were once “budget” goals even. I now collect in a “take what I’m given” sort of mindset. But opportunities dry up noticeably day by day. New and old, vintage and modern. I have jumped around everywhere, and found no respite.

I find this hard to with the few 10’s I have left. They were pulled or purchased raw and graded by me and are the remanence of a bigger collection I used to have. The most frustrating thing about the current market is even if you have cards that you dont have big money in, you’re forced to consider getting rid of them with how much money is on the table. Everyone has a different threshold, but if the 10’s I have left continue to 2x-3x, I would be stupid not to sell.

That being said, I have shifted to collecting 9’s and will most likely sell any future 10’s I grade.

I feel you..

New member here. I started collecting less than a year ago and i have to say reality is harsh lol. I gave up to ever own a full collection of Tomokazu Komiya cards, some of his rare promos cards are way out of my reach. It is sad really, got into pokemon due to I’d like to spend some times with my young son collecting cute cards:-) At least in that department the goal is completed…

There are so many komiya cards, sometimes the best thing to do is skip the expensive ones and if you ever buy one at a later date (perhaps the price falls or you find a steal) you can always re-arrange a binder.

That’s what I have done for the last promo I need. But it still feels like my collection is complete.

I have also seen collectors add great looking proxies to fill the gaps!

Truly no greater sign of the depravity of the times we are seeing that someone says a komiya collection is out of reach for being priced out. That says everything you need to know.

Havent lost any goals, but they have certainly become more expensive and will take much longer to complete, if ever

Holding off certain cards (both vintage and modern) that have suddenly gone up in value because I refuse to pay inflated prices.

Wanted to grab a psa 9 shadowless Blastoise & Venusaur but maybe waiting till some cool off may be best for those. Shadowless like most have a very unhealthy rise in price. Looking at some slept on 1st Ed gym challenge and gym hero’s atm

I haven’t given up on any because I think a price correction will occur in the future. However, I have paused almost every Pokemon collecting goal while prices remain at all time highs. And I’ve sold large portions of my collection, including entire species and previously complete sets.

So in a sense, the most salient goal that I have given up on in 2025/2026 is the goal to rebuild what I have sold off. I don’t think that will happen for a year or more at this rate.

I’ve given up on the following goals for the next few years:
• Art Academy Goomy
• Design Contest Arceus (Shonen Sunday)

The current market prices are just way too high for me, so unfortunately I’m out at that price range

I also gave up on the Mudkip master set in 2025, since the Art Academy card is insanely expensive.

I’m still hoping that the owner will eventually release the remaining copies onto the market.

I’m comforting myself by genuinely believing that all this “new market” talk is just the usual part of the hype cycle, and that prices will come down again in a few years.
