Has 2025 forced you to alter your collection goals?

Basically as the title says:
Has the sudden increase in pokemon popularity & value across the board made you change your collecting goals?

  • Yes my goals have been generally slimmed
  • Yes my goals have gotten more elaborate
  • No I’m waiting it out
  • No I’m collecting the same as I did before

Feel free to share how or why if you’d like but I’m overall just curious. And I don’t think either answer i inherently bad or good, since a massive change in valuation “should” probably cause some introspection unless you are independently wealthy and don’t care

I think my goals have remained the same. But I adjusted the timeline here and there because of availability of products and high prices in general.

Yes!

Needed to make way for my entire new personality:

My short term goals have definitely been pushed back by a few months

Needed something other than No Rarity Base to not shut up about.

My goal of all english decks is still ongoing. Its difficult to even find the newest ones in the stores but I’ll just wait to grab them since once people realize they arent worth much theyll dump them for cheap.

The other cards, i grab singles of what i like. Less random buys of sealed though. I still havent seen a pack of surging sparks in the wild.

All of my goals this year are modern, I’m in no rush to buy as the sets are being printed multiple times over until they reach a comfort threshold

Yes, 2015 has forced me to alt..oh, 2025. Yeah, sure! I’ve had to adjust a thing or two! :ice_cream: :wine_glass:

So far nobody on e4 has gotten more elaborate goals

Interesting, that’s a pretty clear sign of caution amongst people who’ve been around I’d say

Oops jk @trainerjack won the lotto last night

Unfortunately yes, I had to postpone several goals to better times. I switched to binder collecting, working on commons and less popular vintage sets (or jp promos).

Buying graded “chase” cards is definitely hard for me rn. The good thing is that I’m apparently free from FOMO, probably thanks to the pandemic experience.

My goals just seem to grow and change with time. I see patience as a virtue in this hobby and I have the consistency to at least try for all the goals I have and keeping adding. Plus I started a small business for cards I grade and sell which gives me a much larger amount I can put back into collecting.

I’m a total n00b so I guess this question isn’t necessarily super relevant to me but you guys and your informative posts keep me up-to-date and cautious

Stopped buying Rayquaza cards completely, and there is a growing hole in my heart…

Nothing too major overall but there are certain cards I’m putting off buying till then hype dies down on them. Still need Poncho Pikachu Gyarados and Magikarp for my master sets but there’s no way in hell I’m paying 4-5K each for them.

To answer your question as it is posed, my goals have not changed, but what I am willing to spend currently for items in my goal list certainly has changed. For now I am just scooping (mostly) the lower end of my goals list :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Nope.
Mostly because I already adjusted my goals in the past.

Not at all lol.

Genuinely killed most of what I was doing. Big expenses also looming over me too. The biggest issue was how I was enjoying the affordability of new sets as they came out. So as soon as surging sparks came out, that whole thing was put on ice. Prismatic evolutions is something I just give up on entirely. And all my vintage collecting wiped out a lot of hope. So I only really search for my oddball goals. Rare variants(i.e donald duck magazine cards), swirl cards, chinese legend maker. Things where prices aren’t going up because nobody knows/cares as much about it.

I ended Eevee in all languages goal. Partially due to the market because of how expensive the Eeveelutions got. But mostly because of the sheer number of cards released

Generally, I have mostly shifted my priorities. My wotc slab collecting is taking a backseat for now, and I have been focusing more on my binders. I dont plan to stop buying wotc, im just not super comfortable paying prices that increased significantly over the past few months. But i would still be comfortable paying these prices in general if they hold. Just feel like the best move is to wait it out and see for now.

Otherwise, i dont collect a ton of modern, just some sets and promos I really like, but ive considered dropping it entirely. Im just having trouble rationalizing the prices and all these half complete set binders are bothering me
