Are you buying right now?

Common advice here on the forum is to “pay market value or even above market” to get cards. I tend to agree with this sentiment.

My question is that for the people who employ this strategy, are you still buying with the recent price increases ??

For reference, I have stopped buying.

Yes

From what I can see(me included) is a lot of people are still buying and probably always will regardless of prices increasing

Here’s a pic from a recent purchase I had on a sealed UK Print Base Booster Pack, the day after the prices jumped and still they are selling fairly quickly & one of the names here has been buying & opening them since they were more than half the price what they are now. I think people will always continue to buy what they want

I’m still buying. I don’t think the prices will go back down to the point where waiting is worth it. It might go back down a little but probably not. Look at it from the buyers perspective - if you buy a card for a certain price you would never sell for anything lower than what you bought unless you are desperate for money which asks the question why you buying Pokemon cards in the first place. im excluding flippers of course in this reasoning.

so most cards that are being bought up will either never come back on market or they will be listed for more than it was which drives up the price. especially with low pop and wotc cards.

@admiral77, I’ve kept going as usual without paying ridiculous amounts. Stay clear of the over priced hype cards and just focus on the regular cards you like for your collection. If you stop buying because a few certain cards are being bumped to a premium you’re going to miss a lot of good deals.

Just spent a few thousand this week on cards. Ya I’m still buying. Nothing will stop that. I’m not going to sit back and wait and hope they go down instead of up. But if I’m betting on hopes and dreams I’d just buy abunch of lottery tickets or even scratch offs. Or shit I’ll hit the casino. Take the money out of the situation. What do you enjoy? And why not just buy that regardless of price. Or if out of range pick something else. Millions of cards out there don’t let a few expensive cards discourage you if you want to collect

I actually stopped buying for a little while. I picked a hell of a time to come back tho.

You sure did. You just came back recently?

Yep. I finished my Base Set PSA 9 collection and stopped because of my guitar / music hobby.
Now I’m starting to pick up raw and graded jungle and fossil cards and some early EX stuff.
I’m happy to be collecting again tho, regardless of prices.

Sure why not. Obviously real life comes first but after that what’s left goes towards my hobbies including Pokemon

It has been fun to watch the value of my collection rise, but also a little sad to realize some goals I had that were in reach are now unrealistic. I’ve hit the pause button on buying anything graded, but I’ve gone full steam ahead buying raw cards from some retro decks I’m trying to build.

The way I see it is if I don’t pay today, I’ll pay more tomorrow. I keep on buying at market price. I’ve been mostly focused on the e-series due to low pops and limited supply.

I am still buying when I can, but right now I am mostly saving up for certain cards. It is a cycle.

Still buying. After 2 years back in the hobby I’ve learned to pace myself a bit better. And I only buy having secured enough emergency funds and savings given the current outlook.

What did you buy out of curiosity?
